This invention relates to a method for the production of a valve seat () for a cylinder head of an internal combustion engine. According to said method, an additional material is melted with the cylinder head by applying energy in the site in which the valve seat () is to be formed. An alloy or a mixture consisting of an aluminum-iron alloy and at least another component is used as additional material.

In a cooling circuit of a liquid-cooled internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle having a coolant pump, an electrical mixing valve, a radiator, a heater, an engine-oil heat exchanger, a transmission-oil cooler for transferring heat to the ambient air, a transmission-oil/cooling water heat exchanger for transferring heat between the transmission oil and the cooling water arranged in parallel flow circuit with the transmission-oil cooler, and an actuator for controlling the oil flow distribution, an electrical mixing valve is arranged in the cooling water line to the radiator/transmission-oil cooler and the transmission-oil/cooling water heat exchanger, such that the heat transfer in the transmission-oil/cooling water heat exchanger can be controlled by controlling the coolant flows through the transmission oil/cooling water heat exchanger and the radiator.

A method for surface working a tribological coating of a supereutectic aluminum-silicon alloy or an aluminum-silicon composite material with a coating structure includes machining the surface dry, without lubricant, in a one-step process, with a cutting tool having a cutting material containing diamond. In a method for producing a valve seat for a cylinder head of an internal combustion engine made of an aluminum metal alloy as the base material, an added material is fused by a laser beam with the base material of the cylinder head at the point at which the valve seat is to be formed. A tribological coating made of a copper-free highly hypereutectic aluminum/silicon alloy and/or of a copper-free aluminum/silicon composite material composed such that fine silicon primary crystals and/or silicon particles, intermetallic phases, and oxides form as hard particles during the production of the layers in the atmospheric thermal spraying method and/or are anchored in the structure. The surface of the coating can be machined economically by short-chipping using conventional tools, so that additional alloy elements such as copper for forming additional intermetallic phases such as Al,Cu can be eliminated. This is significant because conventional AlSi cylinder liners in reciprocating engines pose problems in conjunction with certain fuels because of their copper content.

A coating for a cylinder bore of a reciprocating engine with an iron, aluminum, or magnesium base comprises a hypereutectic aluminum/silicon alloy. The alloy is applied to a cylinder wall by thermal spraying.
