A drive apparatus for a closure element of a motor vehicle, including a tube defining an axis, a spindle disposed within the tube and configured to move from an extended position to a first retracted position and a second retracted position, a spindle nut disposed within the tube and operatively engaged to the spindle, a stop nut fixed to the spindle, and a damping element disposed between the spindle nut and the stop nut. The tube defines a first end stop face and the stop nut defines a second end stop face, and when the spindle is in the first retracted position, the damping element engages the first end stop face and is spaced apart from the stop nut.

The invention concerns a spindle drive for a closing element () of a motor vehicle (), wherein in a drive train () of the spindle drive (), a drive unit () is provided together with a spindle-nut gear () located drivingly downstream of the drive unit (), with geometric spindle axis (A) running in the axial direction (X), in order to generate linear drive movements of a spindle-side drive connection () relative to a nut-side drive connection () between a retracted position and an extended position of the spindle drive (), wherein in the drive train () a nominal break point () is provided which separates the drive train () at a predetermined axial limit load acting on the spindle drive () via the drive connections (), in particular a tensile load in the direction of the extension position. It is proposed that the drive train () is separated via the nominal break point () between the drive unit () and the spindle-nut gear ().
