A component installation tool of the type having a rearward stroke to accommodate delivery of a component to the front of the tool and a forward stroke to engage, deliver and install the component at a workpiece, the tool including a housing, a reciprocating mechanism contained therein, a feeder support mounted on the housing, a reciprocal magazine mounted on the feeder support for reciprocation between a component receiving position adjacent the tool and a position for delivering a component in front of the mechanism; and delivery means for delivering a component to a chamber in the magazine when the magazine is in the component receiving position and the mechanism is in the forward stroke.

Process for welding a weld-in part in a weld point comprising a metal plate and a metal covering lying thereon with two tools of which one is formed by a welding head and the other by a drill for preparing the weld point by a drilling process. The drill attached to a revolving device initially in one operating position, by means of a lifting motor which can be moved in a controlled manner between a return position and a machining end-position and vice versa, performs the process at least until the metal plate is drilled (machining end-position) in preparation of the weld point. By pivoting of the revolving device, a welding head arranged on the revolving device and equipped with the weld-in part is then brought into an operating position above the prepared weld point to perform welding, meanwhile the drill is coupled to the lifting motor when the welding head is coupled to the lifting motor when the drill is uncoupled to perform welding on completion of the drilling process. Drill and the welding head are each set aside in their return position on a rest shoulder after pivoting of the revolving device, the welding head being equipped with a weld-in part in the rest position and the revolving device pivoting the drill or the welding head into the respective operating position from the rest position.

Stud welding device

Process for welding a weld stud onto a workpiece by means of a drawn arc, in which the weld stud is placed onto the workpiece and, with performance of a welding stroke, is removed from the workpiece in a return stroke, igniting a pilot arc, and is advanced toward the workpiece again in a forward stroke during the combustion of a connected welding arc. The welding arc is divided by pulse-wise current reduction to a minimum value into a sequence of current pulses and the last of these current pulses is extended in time by at least about 1.5 times relative to the preceding current pulses. This extended current pulse lasts substantially to the end of the forward stroke.

Method of controlling stud-welding apparatus wherein the lifting coil is essentially current and voltage free at the beginning of the plunge stroke but the plunge stroke is damped by a pulse current applied to the lifting coil a very short time before impact and ceased when the stud contacts the workpiece.
