A system for wireless memory device authentication is provided, wherein a communications device receives a certified public key from a wireless memory device. The communications device validates the public key and send a challenge to the wireless memory device. The wireless memory device sends a signature to the communications device and the communications device validates the signature in order to authenticate the wireless memory device.

Wireless memory device authentication

A system for cryptographically authenticated communication, wherein an activation signal is sent from a communications device to a memory device (). The memory device derives a random challenge from at least one physical property of the activation signal and sends it back to the communications device (). A signature is computed using the received random challenge () and sent, together with a certificate, to the memory device ().

Cryptographically authenticated communication

A method including determining a public identifier for identifying a configuration of an apparatus, determining a common configuration certificate comprising a common configuration certificate identifier for verifying programming data, and determining a hardware certificate comprising the public identifier and the common configuration certificate identifier for associating a permitted combination of the apparatus configuration and the programming data. Furthermore, the method includes generating a dedicated package of the hardware certificates corresponding to the apparatus configurations allowed to be provided, encrypting the dedicated package of the hardware certificates using a public key, and storing the encrypted dedicated package of the hardware certificates with an identifier to a passive memory of the apparatus.

Determination of apparatus configuration and programming data

Various embodiments are described relating to resource management techniques for wireless networks. For example, a resource deficiency may be determined for a requesting wireless node in a wireless network. A resource request may be sent from the requesting node to one or more other wireless nodes, and a resource reply including a resource status may be received from one or more of the other wireless nodes in response to the resource request. One of the other nodes from which to obtain a resource may be selected based on the resource status for the selected node, and a resource update message may be sent from the requesting wireless node to the selected wireless node to facilitate a reallocation of resources from the selected node to the requesting node, the resource update message indicating an amount of resources to be reallocated from the selected node to the requesting node.

Resource management techniques for wireless networks

Method, system and arrangements for setting up and maintaining a WLAN connection within predictably moving vehicles

A wireless device transmits beacon packets at periodically occurring time intervals across a wireless channel. When the wireless communications device has not formed a piconet with one or more remote devices, the device scans the wireless channel for a predetermined amount of time immediately following each of the periodically occurring time intervals. During this time a remote device may respond to the beacon packet.

Device discovery and connection establishment for ad hoc networks

A system for configuring antenna systems for selecting directional communication signals corresponding to other apparatuses. Apparatuses having activities that require directional wireless communication may search for other apparatuses that can fulfill these requirements. This search may include, for example, the transmission of wireless messages requesting a set of communication beams usable for beam training (for example, one or more beam training sequences). Other apparatuses that are able to satisfy the requirements of the searching apparatus may respond to the request message by transmitting a message that comprises at least information usable for configuring beam training configuration in the apparatus.

System for facilitating beam training

A method of coordinating devices in a wireless network is provided. First capability data associated with a first type of power source and a first state of the power source of a first device is received at a second device. Second capability data is transmitted to the first device from the second device. The second capability data is associated with a second type of power source and a second state of the power source of the second device. The first capability data is compared with the second capability data at the second device. If the comparison indicates the first capability data is less desirable than the second capability data, the second capability data is transmitted again to the first device from the second device. If the comparison indicates the first capability data is more desirable than the second capability data, the first capability data is received again from the first device at the second device.

Method and system for supporting residual energy awareness in an ad hoc wireless communications network

In a mobile environment, a mobile device includes an attached memory stick (removable memory) having a high speed&#x2014;memory and storage with direct memory access embodied in an integrated circuit chip coupled to an ultra-wideband (UWB) transceiver. The mobile device communicates with other like base devices, portable or stationary, via UWB transmissions using pulse bursts up to 1 Gbit per second. Data transfers between the devices occur in the simplex or duplex mode, after a low power communication connection is established between the devices. The communication link between the devices is in the range of 10-20 meters. The communication system allows existing device bus interfaces (which are much slower than ultra-wideband transmissions) to communicate between the fast read/write cycles of the memories integrated within the memory stick. Duplex transmission can occur by pulse interleaving sending side transmitters and receiving side transmitters.

Ultra-wideband/low power communication having a dedicated removable memory module for fast data downloads&#x2014;apparatus, systems and methods

Various embodiments are described relating to sharing scanning operations among nodes in a wireless network, such as a WiMedia ultra-wideband (UWB) network. In an example embodiment, a message may be sent from a first node to one or more other nodes in a wireless network indicating that the first node is configured to perform a scanning operation on a wireless medium in substitution of scanning the wireless medium at the one or more other nodes. The wireless medium may be scanned, for example, by the first node to obtain scanning results for the one or more other nodes. The scanning results may be sent, for example, by the first node, to the one or more other nodes.

Shared scanning in distributed networks

The present invention provides techniques for spatial reuse in wireless communications networks. Accordingly, the present invention provides A device participates in a wireless communications network. The network has a shared transmission medium for the exchange of communications traffic. Further, the device determines a value for at least one interference condition in the shared transmission medium of the wireless communications network. Based on this value, a planned transmission to a remote wireless communications device is scheduled. For instance, when this value is less than a predetermined threshold, this scheduling employs a time-overlapping access technique.

Spatial reuse in a wireless communications network

A method and system improves data throughput when performing error control in Ultra Wideband (UWB) communications. The method and system is capable of performing communications via a first wireless communications link and a second wireless communications link. The first wireless communications link is a UWB transmission link and the second wireless communications link is a different type of wireless communications link for communicating error control data for the UWB transmission link.

Method and system for repeat request in hybrid ultra wideband-bluetooth radio

A wireless communications device detects a change in its residual energy status, and transmits the residual energy status across a wireless communications network to a remote device that coordinates communications in the wireless communications network. For example, the remote device may be a piconet coordinator (PNC) in an IEEE 802.15.3 network, or a master device in a Bluetooth network. A wireless communications device that coordinates communications in a wireless communications network (the coordinator) transmits one or more first handover commands to one or more remote devices upon the occurrence of a triggering event. Based on responses to these first commands, the coordinator selects a remote device for coordinating future communications in the wireless communications network.

Generating a protected content stream from a data stream provides enhanced security in short-range wireless communications networks. This protected content stream is transmitted across a first short-range communications link. In addition, information for converting the protected content stream into the data stream is transmitted across a second link. The first link may be an ultra wideband (UWB) link, while the second link may be a Bluetooth link.

Method and system for providing communications security

A method, system and program code are provided to implement a wireless network having a plurality of devices in which one of the devices coordinates wireless communications between the devices. The method and system evaluates device parameters of one or more of the plurality of devices, the device parameters including at least available power source characteristics for a device; and determines a coordinator from the plurality of devices based on at least the available power source characteristics, such as an available power source capacity, for the one or more of the plurality of devices, the coordinator adapted to coordinate wireless communications between the devices in the wireless network.
