The present invention is concerned with the automated updating of a digital patient record with actual vital signs data values for the patient, thereby obviating the need for a healthcare professional attending to the patient to manually input such data values into the digital patient record. To this end, the present application provides several computer-implemented methods for capturing such vital signs data values in digital form, e.g. a photographic image or screen capture, and automatically extracting the vital signs data values captured in such a digital image therefrom, e.g. using OCR algorithms. Also provided are computer program products for implementing such methods and electronic devices configured to implement such methods.

Automatic patient record updating

An interface unit () for connecting between an ultrasound sensing apparatus () and a patient monitor () for providing ultrasound monitoring functionality of one or more physiological or anatomical parameters based on processing of ultrasound data. The interface unit includes means for processing acquired ultrasound data to derive measurements of one or more physiological or anatomical parameters and is configured for outputting said derived measurements to a coupled patient monitor unit, e.g. for display and/or trending by the patient monitor.

The restraint management apparatus comprises a processing unit arranged to: receive one or more types of sensor data; determine a status of a subject based on the received sensor data; determine, based on the determined subject status, a restraint parameter for a restraint device configured to restrain a body part of the subject; and output a signal based on the determined restraint parameter.

In various embodiments, an image monitoring device () may acquire () video data that captures a medical room. Image processing may be performed on the acquired image data to perform the following tasks: identifying () at least one medical apparatus () in the medical room; identifying () a medical personnel in the medical room; detecting () that the medical personnel has occluded a line of sight between the image monitoring device and the at least one medical apparatus; and determining () an amount of time that the medical personnel occludes the line of sight. In various embodiments, the amount of time may be compared to one or more thresholds set forth by the first medical protocol. An alert may be triggered () in response to a determination that the amount of time fails to satisfy a first threshold of the one or more thresholds.

Monitoring compliance with medical protocols based on occlusion of line of sight

Systems and methods for automatically performing one or more physiological measurements. In various embodiments, image and audio data of a setting in which a patient is present may be acquired via one or more recording devices (). A determination may be made based on the acquired image and audio data of a state of activity associated with the patient. Based on the determined state of activity associated with the patient, a corresponding one or more physiological measurements of the patient to be obtained may be identified. One or more health sensors () may then be caused to be operated to obtain the corresponding one or more physiological measurements.

Using visual context to timely trigger measuring physiological parameters

The invention relates to a hospital video surveillance system comprising several cameras () for acquiring video data for surveilling several patient regions (). The video data are transmitted from the cameras to a display device and are used to determine physiological properties of patients, wherein the physiological properties are vital signs. The bandwidths for the transmission of the video data are allocated depending on the determined physiological properties. Thus, the bandwidth allocation considers the physiological states of the patients, which can ensure that a sufficient bandwidth is provided where it is really required. This is especially useful, if the overall bandwidth is limited. Moreover, since the video data are used for fulfilling several functions, i.e. surveilling the several patient regions and determining the physiological properties, the overall system can be very compact and less or no additional physiological sensors might be required.

Hospital video surveillance system

Methods and systems for automated monitoring are described herein. In various embodiments, image data of an enclosed area captured by an imaging device (), audio data captured from the enclosed area by a sound sensor (), and odor data captured from the enclosed area by an odor sensor (), may be obtained by a computing device (HO). Based on the image, audio, and odor data, a determination () of an activity taking place within the enclosed area may be made. In various embodiments, one or more objects or persons in the enclosed area may be identified by performing image processing on the image data. The determined activity may be compared with corresponding data and parameters previously stored in a rules and schedules database (). Based on the comparison and a decision generated by the rules and schedules database, an action may be selected to be performed.

A patient monitor device includes one or more sensors which measure physiological parameters of a patient, a controller which controls an audio source to generate an audible tone and adjust the pitch or frequency of the audible tone to indicate the measured physiological parameter according to a mapping scheme, the audio source which generates the audible tone, and an audio output device which outputs the audible tone. The mapping scheme clamping a frequency of the audible tone after reaching a predetermined threshold.
