A method sets the inking in a printing press with multiple ink zones in an inking unit of a printing unit. The method includes: printing a test form onto a printing substrate with an intentional pre-defined color deviation from the intended target color; correcting the previously set ink setting and the defined set color deviation with regard to the respective target value in the wet condition of the printing substrate by a color measuring device; and taking color measurements of the dried printing substrate using the color measuring device. The measured color values established in the dry state and the original of the test form in a computer are compared. The ink setting that belongs to the ink zone with the smallest deviation from the intended target color is used as the target ink setting for the printing process.

Method for the automated definition of color test values

To perform a method for identifying color measuring strips having measuring areas on printed products, the color measuring strips are scanned with a color measuring instrument. The measured color values acquired by the color measuring instrument are stored in a computer and that the measured color values acquired are each assigned to a printing ink. A sequence formed in this way of printing inks is stored in the computer and then compared with color measuring strip types stored in the computer. The stored color measuring strip type having the greatest probability is then selected.

The method includes a first step of providing a picture taking device, a closed-loop control device, and a printed product having a surface with a printed image. A second step of printing a print control strip on the surface next to the printed image. A third step of deriving first picture signals from the print control strip and deriving second picture signals from the printed image with the picture taking device. A fourth step of using the closed-loop control device for deriving actual values representing inking of the print control strip from the first picture signals and comparing the actual values to desired values for deriving resultant comparison values.
