A lighting device for attachment to a motor vehicle inside a housing One or more light emitting diodes which emit substantially white light are employed as lighting emitters. On account of the small amount of waste heat of the light-emitting diodes the lighting device can be particularly easily integrated into existing subassemblies of the motor vehicle, in particular into the outside mirrors, inside mirror, trim strips and door handles, and can serve to illuminate the region around the vehicle or the interior of the vehicle.

The plate-like light refraction element (,) has, at least on one side, a surface structure (,) by means of which the light refraction element is divided into several light refraction zones. To achieve a deflection of the light into a preferred direction the light refraction element (,) is designed in the manner of a Fresnel prism (,), the light refraction zones corresponding to prism zones of a prism body which are pushed together in stepwise manner. To intensify the deflection of the light beam into the preferred direction a decentralized condenser lens (,) may be arranged in front of the Fresnel prism (,).

Lighting device for a motor vehicle

An outside rear view mirror for a motor vehicle includes a mirror element, a housing and a mirror foot fastenable to the motor vehicle. At least one electrical function element, in particular a contacting element, is provided in the outside rear view mirror. In order in a simple manner to protect the function element (,) from moisture and dirt, there is provided in the outside rear view mirror (,) a sealable chamber (,), in which the electrical function element (,) may be disposed.
