Method and data receiver device for reception of a radio signal containing correction data for a global navigation satellite system

A telematic device in which a car radio with an RDS module, a wireless telephone, and a positioning and navigation system are provided in one housing. The housing is designed so that it can be installed in a standard bay in the instrument panel of a motor vehicle. The telematic device can be used to receive general information via the car radio as well as specific information via the GSM module. In addition, data relating to, for example, the vehicle position, a desired destination, or an emergency call can be sent to the central station. The central station calculates one or more routes and transmits them back to the telematic device. In the event of an accident or a vehicle breakdown, an emergency call is transmitted and assistance obtained. Additional telematic services provided include an expanded anti-theft system for the motor vehicle, hotel reservations, etc.

The Radio Data System (RDS) protocol promulgated by the European Broadcasting Union provides for alternate frequencies (AF) for the same broadcast. Receivers periodically switch over to such an alternate frequency, leading to momentary crackling noises. In a radio receiver having a device for temporary switchover from a received frequency to some other frequency, substitute signals are inserted into the audio signals that are interrupted during the temporary switchover. The substitute signals are formed from the audio signals before and optionally also after the temporary switchover.

A novel receiver for subcarriers in a radio broadcasting system is described, in which the characteristic frequency of the mixing oscillator is varied under program control. An incoming signal from antenna 1 passes through an input stage 2 to a mixing stage 3. Mixing stage 3 receives the output of an oscillator 4. The output of the mixing stage passes into an intermediate frequency filter stage 5, which preferably includes A/D converters 13 and demultiplexers 14. Stage 5 feeds a plurality of demodulators 6, which may include equalizers 12. Buffer memories 7 store information from demodulated subcarrier signals, and feed an evaluation unit 8. Evaluation unit 8 has a first output which drives a speaker 9 and a second output which is applied to a memory 11. A control unit 10, connected to the output of memory 11, controls the frequency generated by mixing oscillator 4. This system facilitates digital signal transmission by compensating for poor transmission conditions which would otherwise cause serious dropouts in the digital signal.

To increase the fidelity of radio reception in a moving receiver, for example a car radio, the signals received from various antennas on the radio are mixed with a carrier in the receiver, and the resulting mixed signals, directly and 90.degree. phase-shifted, are added to a summing signal, in which, additionally, the phase positions of the direct and 90.degree. phase-shifted signals are changed in dependence on the phase difference between the respective intermediate frequency mixed signal and the overall summed signal in a direction to maximize the summed signal (u.sub.s).

Diversity radio receiver for use with multiple antenna, particularly car

For diversity reception from a plurality of antennas, particularly in an automotive vehicle (FIG. 4), the respectively received signals are mixed with a local oscillator signal to form a plurality of IF signals (u.sub.1 . . . u.sub.n). The respective IF signals are weighted with a weighting coefficient which is derived from a sum circuit of all the IF signals, and the respective IF signal, which weighting circuit includes an integrator to minimize temporal variations in the amplitude of the sum signal. The sum signal forms the actual IF signal, for further processing, and demodulating to derive an audio signal. Preferably, the signals from the antennas are branched, and the branch signals phase-shifted 90.degree., which, again, are weighted by similarly generated weighting coefficients, and the weighted, phase-shifted signals are combined in the adding or summing circuit (70) to form said eventual IF signal for demodulation.

To provide recognition of personal data, for example the registration number of a vehicle in which a car radio is installed, the car radio includes a non-volatile memory (4) which can be selectively connected to a data input arrangement (2) for the electronic equipment (1) to store the registration number therein. A recall switch (S2) is provided to selectively connect the non-volatile memory (4) to the display (3) for displaying the personal recognition data or, in normal operation, to connect the display to the output of the electronic equipment, to display data pertinent to the operation of the electronic equipment, for example the frequency of a tuned station. Two additional memories (5, 6) store, respectively, a predetermined code word and, upon entry from the data entry arrangement, the same code word. Unless the two code words agree, the recall switch (2) is changed to display only the personal recognition data, for example the vehicle registration. Thus, the vehicle from which a radio has been stolen will be indicated unless the correct code is entered into the additional, and comparison memory. Few electronic components are needed which form part of the electronics of the car radio so that attempts to override the memory or destroy it will result in overall destruction of the electronic equipment.
