There is disclosed herein a method to operate a system comprising an energy storage system (ESS) and a converter. The ESS being connected to the converter such that a DC-side of the converter forms DC terminals between which at least one string of modules of the ESS is connected. The method comprises receiving a bypass request to bypass at least one module in the ESS, based on a total number of modules to be bypassed exceeding a number of redundant modules, controlling the converter to reduce the terminal voltage of the ESS; and after reducing the terminal voltage of the ESS, bypassing the module. There is further disclosed herein a system comprising a central controller performing said method.

A charging system for an automated guided vehicle, AGV, is presented. The charging system includes an offboard, meshed charging grid and onboard contact pads. The offboard, meshed charging grid including a charging pole in each grid point, wherein adjacent charging poles are configured with opposite polarity of a charging current. The onboard contact pads include four separate contact pads. An AGV is also presented.

Charging of an AGV

A module () for use in an energy storage system is provided, including a first terminal () and a second terminal (); a supercapacitor branch () including an arrangement () of one or more supercapacitors (), and a resistive bypass branch () including at least a first bypass switch () and a resistance () connected in series. The supercapacitor branch and the resistive bypass branch are connected in parallel between the first terminal and the second terminal. The module may further include a direct bypass branch () having a second bypass switch (), the direct bypass branch being also connected in parallel with the supercapacitor branch () between the first and second terminals. A control method of such a module and an energy storage system including several such modules, are also provided.

Module for large scale energy storage

An onboard powertrain for an automated guided vehicle, AGV, is presented herein. The onboard powertrain includes a split-source inverter, SSI, having at least one middle point pole, a positive DC-link pole, and a negative DC-link pole, a battery and an inductor connected in series between the positive or negative DC-link pole and the middle point pole, and a supercapacitor connected between the positive and negative DC-link poles.

A frequency support system arranged for providing frequency support to an AC grid. The system includes an ES arrangement, and a bi-directional DC/AC power electronic converter interface configured for connecting the ES arrangement with the grid. The ES arrangement includes a plurality of series connected ES groups, each ES group including a plurality of parallel connected ES modules, each ES module including an energy storage interfaced by a bi-directional power electronic ES converter configured for connecting the ES with a DC side of the converter interface.
