A system, such as for a fuel cell electric vehicle, includes a fuel cell stack (FCS) and a controller. The FCS is configured to provide, such as for vehicle propulsion, a stack power commensurate with a stack power request. The stack power is a product of a stack current of the FCS and a stack voltage of the FCS. The controller is configured to, upon the stack voltage meeting a predetermined threshold, control the FCS to increase the stack current to cause the FCS to provide an increased stack power commensurate with an increased stack power request.

Fuel cell system having maximum cell voltage constraint

A system includes a fuel cell stack (FCS) and a controller. The controller adjusts a stack current of the FCS to a desired amount to cause the FCS to provide a power commensurate with a power request. The controller employs a stack power model of the FCS in adjusting the stack current.

Method and system employing fuel cell stack power model in controlling fuel cell system

A fuel cell system has a fuel cell stack including a plurality of fuel cells and an anode injector system, and a controller programmed. The controller, responsive to an amplitude of cyclic changes in voltage of at least some of the fuel cells exceeding a threshold, a frequency of the cyclic changes being within a predetermined range of a frequency associated with the anode injector system, and the voltage being less than a predetermined value, disables the fuel cell stack.

Methods and systems for battery temperature management

A vehicle includes a fuel cell, an inlet valve, a purge valve, and a controller. The fuel cell has an anode side configured to receive hydrogen. The inlet valve is configured to open to deliver the hydrogen to the anode side. The purge valve is configured to open to purge water and nitrogen from the anode side. The controller is programmed to, operate the inlet valve to inject hydrogen into the anode side via opening the inlet valve followed by closing the inlet valve. The controller is further programmed to, in response to a concentration of the hydrogen in the anode side being less than threshold, open the purge valve to purge water and nitrogen from the anode side.

Vehicle fuel cell purging system

A vehicle includes a fuel cell having an air inlet port and an air outlet port and an air supply system having a compressor connected in fluid communication with the inlet port and a throttle valve connected in fluid communication with the outlet port. A controller is programmed to change a position of the throttle valve based on a target mass air flow, a measured mass air flow, a measured pressure, and the position of the throttle valve.

Fuel cell control system for vehicles

An engine and cabin thermal management system for use with a vehicle having an engine, a cabin heating system configured to thermally heat a cabin of the vehicle, a coolant system operably coupled to the engine and to the cabin heating system to thermally manage a temperature of the engine and a temperature of the cabin. The coolant system having one or more coolant thermal storage units fluidly coupled with a radiator and heater core of the coolant system forming a coolant loop. The system further having a control system configured to monitor and maintain at least a predetermined coolant temperature at the cabin heating system even during a coolant temperature decrease at the engine stops.
