A jet noise suppressor and an airplane are provided. The jet noise suppressor includes a nozzle with a front end, a back end, an interior surface, and an exterior surface, a plurality of struts, and a plurality of vents. Each strut includes a base and a distal end with the base of each strut coupled to the interior surface of the nozzle, and each vent corresponds to a respective strut and is formed within the interior surface of the nozzle between the front end of the nozzle and the base of the respective strut.

A computer-implemented sonic boom prediction method for use in designing a supersonic aircraft is disclosed herein. The method includes receiving physical parameters and performance parameters for a supersonic aircraft, generating a three-dimensional (3D) flow field around the supersonic aircraft for at least one airspeed using a CFD model in a first region of a near field bounded by a first radial distance and a propagation model in a second region of the near field bounded by the first radial distance and the second radial distance. The 3D flow field generated by the CFD model is used as a boundary condition for the propagation model. The method further includes estimating sonic boom signatures on a ground surface using a long distance sonic boom propagation model that incorporates the 3D flow field estimated by the propagation model as an initial condition. The parameters are adjusted to reduce estimated sonic boom signatures.

High fidelity and high efficiency method for sonic boom predictions in supersonic flights

A jet noise suppressor including a nozzle having a front end and an opposed rear end, spokes extending radially inward from the nozzle, the spokes defining vents, and a center-body connected to the spokes and in fluid communication with the vents, the center-body being positioned centrally within the nozzle and including a closed front end and an open rear end, wherein the front end of the nozzle entrains a first ambient airflow passing through the nozzle and exiting the rear end of the nozzle proximate a periphery of the nozzle, and wherein the vents entrain a second ambient airflow passing through the center-body and exiting the rear end of the nozzle proximate a center of the nozzle.
