Systems and methods are disclosed for extending digital signal processor (DSP) capability of existing media gateway devices. A system includes a media gateway device, which has a first plurality of voice server cards. Each voice server card comprises a first controller, a first communications interface, and at least one first DSP configured to implement at least one first coder/decoder (codec). The system further includes a communications switch and at least one external DSP server. The external DSP server comprises a second plurality of voice server cards, which each comprise a second controller, a second communications interface, and at least one second DSP configured to implement at least one second codec. The at least one external DSP server is in communication with the media gateway device via the communications switch.

Systems and methods for extending DSP capability of existing computing devices

The subject matter described herein includes methods, systems, and computer readable media for intelligent optimization of digital signal processor (DSP) resource utilization in a media gateway. In one method, it is determined in a media gateway whether predetermined conditions exist for DSP-less IP-IP switching for a call. In response to determining that the predetermined conditions exist, DSP-less IP-IP switching is implemented for the call in the media gateway. After implementing the DSP-less IP-IP switching for the call, it is determined whether a predetermined event occurs that requires insertion of DSP resources during the call. In response to determining that the predetermined event occurs, the DSP resources are inserted into the call during the call.

Methods, systems, and computer readable media for intelligent optimization of digital signal processor (DSP) resource utilization in a media gateway

The subject matter described herein includes methods, systems, and computer program products for oversubscription of wireless media gateway resources. According to one aspect, the subject matter described herein includes a method for oversubscription of wireless media gateway resources. The method includes defining at least one per-resource oversubscription factor for wireless media gateway resources required by at least one wireless network connection. The wireless media gateway resources are provisioned for the at least one wireless network connection using the at least one per-resource oversubscription factor. Allocating the wireless media gateway resources to the at least one wireless connection network includes oversubscribing the wireless media gateway resources by an amount based on the at least one per-resource oversubscription factor to increase utilization of the wireless media gateway resources by increasing the number of wireless network connections that the wireless media gateway is capable of serving.

Methods, systems, and computer program products for oversubscription of wireless media gateway resources

The subject matter described herein includes methods, systems, and computer program products for providing TDM terminating services in a packet network. According to one method, a combined set including a plurality of TDM channels is received over a packet network. The combined set of TDM channels is terminated in the packet network as a combined TDM facility. Terminating the TDM channels as a combined TDM facility may include providing at least one terminating TDM service for the TDM channels, such as performing CAS signaling or providing a PRI interface for the TDM channels.

Methods, systems, and computer program products for providing time division multiplexed (TDM) terminating service in a packet network

Methods and systems for providing lawful intercept of a media stream in a media gateway include establishing a call context between a first termination and a second termination and establishing a tap context with at least one tap termination, which refer to the first termination. The call context defines a call media stream between the first and second terminations associated with a call between first and second end users. The tap context defines at least one tap media stream from the first termination to the at least one tap termination. The tap media stream is a one-way media stream that carries either the mouth portion of the call media stream, the ear portion of the media stream, or a combination of the mouth and ear portions of the media stream from the first termination to the at least one tap termination. Multiple tap contexts can be created to support the lawful intercept of the call by multiple law enforcement agencies.

Methods and systems for providing lawful intercept of a media stream in a media gateway

Methods and systems for controlling media stream handover in a media gateway includes establishing a call context between a first termination and a second termination in a media gateway. The first and second terminations are capable of bi-directional media stream communications associated with a call between first and second end users. In response to a handover event affecting the first termination, a third termination is added to the context. The third termination is initially capable of receive-only communications. The context is then modified such that the third termination becomes capable of bi-directional media stream communications and the first termination becomes capable of receive-only communications. The first termination is then removed from the context. The media stream handover may be performed using extensions to a media gateway control protocol and without using a conference bridge.

A method of optimizing access network utilization is provided. The access network includes a plurality of integrated access devices coupled to a segment and reassembly device, where each segment and reassembly device has a plurality of channels, X. The method includes the steps of providing a plurality of subscriber lines, &#x3a3;m, coupled to the integrated access devices, providing a plurality of integrated access device lines, &#x3a3;n, between the integrated access devices and the segment and reassembly device, multiplexing the plurality of subscriber lines by the integrated access device onto the plurality of integrated access device lines, such that &#x3a3;m&#x3e;&#x3a3;n=X, and providing a reorder tone to any subscriber whose call is blocked.
