In one illustrative example, a vehicular flasher unit is operative to provide a heartbeat flasher scheme in vehicle flasher lights. One illustrative technique in the vehicular flasher unit involves monitoring a flasher enable input to identify a flasher enable signal and producing, at a light illumination output in response to identifying the flasher enable signal, a heartbeat flashing scheme in the vehicle flasher lights. The heartbeat flashing scheme has a repeating sequence of two heartbeat pulse flashes in the vehicle flasher lights which include a first heartbeat pulse flash and a second heartbeat flash. Each first heartbeat pulse flash has a first peak intensity in the vehicle flasher lights and each second heartbeat pulse flash has a second peak intensity in the vehicle flasher lights that is preferably different from the first peak intensity. Further, each first heartbeat pulse flash is separated from its following second heartbeat pulse flash by a first duration, and each second heartbeat pulse flash is separated from its following first heartbeat pulse by a second duration that is greater than the first.

Vehicular flasher unit operative to provide a heartbeat flasher scheme

In one illustrative example, a vehicular flasher unit has control circuitry; memory which is accessible by the control circuitry and having a plurality of pulse width modulation (PWM) flasher scheme data sets stored therein which correspond to a plurality of flasher schemes for vehicle flasher lights of a vehicle; a flasher scheme selection input to the control circuitry; a flasher enable input to the control circuitry which enables a flasher scheme in the vehicular flasher lights; and a light illumination output from the control circuitry which controls illumination of the vehicle flasher lights. The control circuitry is operative to select a set of PWM flasher scheme data from the plurality of PWM flasher scheme data sets stored in the memory in accordance with a flasher scheme selection input signal identified at the flasher scheme selection input; monitor the flasher enable input to identify a flasher enable signal; and produce, at the light illumination output in response to identifying a flasher enable signal at the flasher enable input, a pulse width modulated signal in accordance with the selected set of PWM flashing scheme data for illuminating a flasher scheme in the vehicle flasher lights. Preferably, the set of PWM flasher scheme data is a set of PWM heartbeat scheme data corresponding to a heartbeat flashing scheme in the vehicle flasher lights. Several safety and convenience features are further provided in the vehicular flasher unit.

Vehicular flasher unit having selectable flasher schemes illuminated with pulse width modulated signals

A cordless telephone-to-sound card interface adapter provides a connection between any standard cordless telephone system and a sound card of a computer for PC-to-PC or PC-to-telephone voice communications over the Internet. The interface adapter includes a hybrid transformer circuit for interfacing a two-wire circuit of the cordless telephone and a four-wire circuit of the computer sound card. Consisting of passive components, this hybrid transformer circuit cancels out the voice echo that would otherwise exist due to mismatched impedances between the two media and/or from leakage of the signal being transmitted and received on the same pair of telephone lines. Preferably, a Universal Serial Bus (USB) interface is provided to supply a bias voltage to the cordless telephone system through the interface adapter. The interface adapter may also include interfaces for connecting with external computer speakers and microphone, and a control circuit for automatically switchably coupling the computer sound card to either the cordless telephone or the external speakers and microphone as appropriate.

A cellular radio system forms a non-homogeneous channel set and utilizes a dynamic channel assignment in a cellular radio system. This combination increases the number of candidate channels with essentially the same level of interference that is experienced with respect to utilizing a homogeneous channel set with a dynamic channel set. The resulting improvement increases the call capacity of a cellular radio system without requiring additional frequency spectrum. Hence, more cellular radio subscribers can be served simultaneously.

Apparatus and method to reduce the reuse factor for adaptive-dynamic channel assignment systems

A method is presented for reducing the frequency reuse factor by reducing the effects of intermodulation products in a cellular radio system. The cellular radio system constructs and stores modified channel sets that have a reduced measure of homogeneity. The cellular radio system selects a channel number from the appropriate modified channel set in order to support a call. This invention reduces radio interference, thus improving the quality of service and increasing the call capacity of the cellular radio system.

Apparatus and method for reducing the effects of intermodulation interference in a cellular radio system

An electronic circuit board electrically connected to other circuits of a data processing system by means of a bus, may be removed and re-inserted in the system without the necessity of disabling other circuits connected to the bus. A latch actuated switch provides a control signal in anticipation of circuit board removal. The control signal activates a finite state machine which seizes control of the bus after completion of any current bus communications and stops the generation of clock pulses normally required in bus communications. When contact is physically broken between the board and its corresponding connector, the finite state machine restores the bus clock pulses and relinquishes control of the bus. When a board is to be inserted in an open connector, contact between the board and the connector is sensed by the finite state machine which causes the bus to be seized and the bus clock pulses to be temporarily inhibited. When the board is fully inserted, the finite state machine restores the bus clock pulses and relinquishes control of the bus.
