A fibre band or sliver is passed through a defined opening of a measuring station. Said opening has a cross section smaller than the diameter of the fibre band, so that the band contacts the walls of said opening which thereby defines a measuring cross section. The fibre band while passing said opening is transilluminated by at least one light source. The transmitted light intensity is measured by a light receiver and is detected as a measure for the quantity of the fibre material present in said cross section.

The device for cutting textile material and sealing the edges of the cut material comprises a heated resistance wire of round cross section supported in a supporting means. The wire forms a flattened central portion shaped to form a semi-circular bow having a symmetrical shape with a curved outer edge ground to a feather cutting edge, an inner edge and two lateral flat faces parallel to each other along which the edges of the textile material are moved after being cut by combined mechanical and thermal action of the wire. The edges of the textile material are sealed thereby. Since the temperature of the wire can be kept relatively low, no ridges of melted material are formed along the edges of the textile material.

A device for measuring the transverse dimension, such as the diameter of a textile thread, comprises a light source, a linear array of optoelectrical sensors, a clock for periodically scanning the linear array, and electronic circuitry for evaluating the serial signals furnished by the linear array. The electronic circuitry comprises amplifying means, a limiter such as a Schmitt-trigger, and means for integrating the pulse amplitudes furnished by the linear array over a plurality of scanning periods or cycles. Further, means are provided for automatically controlling the response of the electronic circuitry in inverse proportion to the averaged output of the integrating means.

Therefore, with the present method during the winding operation the slip, which is governed by the relationship of the circumferential velocities of the grooved drum and the cross-wound package, is continuously measured in successive time intervals, and there is undertaken a correction of the yarn length determined without taking into account the slip. Thus, sensors continuously measure the rotational speeds of the cross-wound package and the grooved drum, and an angle measuring device determines the diameter of the cross-wound package, these measuring results then being inputted to an evaluation circuit. In the evaluation circuit there is computed the slip and such is incorporated into the length measurement.

The measuring equipment comprises a movable transfer member mechanically coupled to the movable member of the machine, and therewith cooperating photoelectrical sensing means for generating a sensing signal indicative of the position of the movable member at each revolution of the package. The invention is concerned with an electronic device for testing and controlling the clearing action of an electronic yarn clearer. The device comprises an individual fault measuring circuitry connected to the yarn sensing head of the yarn clearer for detecting yarn faults such as thick and thin places, and selector means for separating the non-tolerable faults from the rest. By comparing the output of the device and the output of the yarn clearer, the non-tolerable faults which have not been cut-out by the yarn clearer are detected. It is possible to eliminate also the latter faults from the yarn by actuating the severing device of the clearer.
