Fiber slivers must be condensed during the course of a spinning process or their mass must be determined. For this purpose there are employed so-called grooved pairs of rollers, that is to say, profiled rolls which define a sliver throughput groove which is limited or confined at both sides. The sliver is guided through a feed or delivery funnel up to the throughput groove. The danger thus exists that individual fibers can jam between the side surfaces or faces of the rollers which form the lateral boundaries of the groove. This danger is eliminated with the invention in that the fiber outlet opening of the feed funnel is located within the region of a wedge-shaped gap which is bounded by an overlapping zone of the side surfaces or faces of the rollers.

In a can changer device, empty cans are fed to a reserve position A and full cans are transported from a collection position C into a delivery position G by means of an apparatus for moving spinning cans. The can moving apparatus comprises drive means containing rails and a carriage movable thereon and having pivotably mounted arms. The arms are pivotable from a substantially vertical position, and specifically, to one side into a substantially horizontal position for entraining and moving the empty cans and, as to one arm of such arms, into the opposite substantially horizontal position for entraining and moving the full can. The carriage is movable to-and-fro by means of a toothed belt between a deflection or reversing head and a drive head, respectively between the locations or positions H and L. During operation, the can changer device itself moves the filled can from the position B towards the position C and the empty can from the position A into the position B. The can moving apparatus thereafter moves the full can from the position C into the position G, whereafter the one arm is pivoted back into the vertical position and the carriage is moved into the location of position L in order to thereafter move the empty cans into the positions F and F.sup.I, and simultaneously, to move the preceding cans to such an extent that an empty can has again reached the reserve position A. Thereafter, the arms are again pivoted back into the subtantially vertical position and the carriage is returned back into the waiting location or position I.

An autolevelling drawframe for levelling out staple fibre slivers in the spinning mill operation, in which deviations of the sliver weight (linear density) from the preset desired value detected are processed into correcting signals and are transmitted to a correcting member, which adapts the input speed of the drafting arrangement. The correcting signal transmitted is generated from the product of a voltage proportional to the rotational speed of the main motor and a voltage determined by the deviation in linear density. The apparatus consists of a computer (34,41; 60,41; 67,71) for computing the correcting signal, which computer is connected electrically with the correcting member (48), with a transducer (20) transmitting the voltage proportional to the rotational speed of the main motor, and with means for generating the voltage determined by the deviation in linear density. The computer can consist of a control device (36) and a multiplicator (41) or of a microprocessor (71) (digital computer).
