A method and apparatus for applying a flowable substance to a flat or curved product using a nozzle unit. The nozzle unit includes a nozzle valve that has a nozzle end with an outlet opening. Moist air and/or temperature-moderated air is admitted to a zone of the nozzle end to form condensation when the supplied moist and/or temperature-moderated air hits the nozzle end zone. Drying up or agglutinating of the flowable substance is thereby prevented at the outlet opening of the nozzle end to secure a continuous, unobstructed flow of the flowable substance from the outlet opening.

Method for applying a flowable substance

A device for braking and positioning a print sheet in a processing machine, wherein, along a feeding direction for the print sheet, at least one mechanism exerts a braking force onto the print sheet, to position the print sheet in connection with an operation of a downstream-arranged processing station. The device includes at least a first mechanism operative to release pneumatic, braking-force triggering pulses that act upon the print sheet. At least a second mechanism is operative to generate at last one frictional force that acts upon the print sheet, wherein with aid of at least one of the first mechanism and the second mechanism, intermittent, uniform or oscillating braking forces are generated that act upon the print sheet. A control unit controls the braking forces based on at least one of changeable control profiles resulting from queried operating parameters and stored control profiles.

Print sheet brake

A method for operating a device that applies a force to a print sheet during a folding operation, wherein the print sheet is in a specified starting position prior to the folding operation. Braking-force triggering pulses are directed toward the print sheet to counter the acceleration of the print sheet in the starting phase of the folding operation and/or to counter fluttering movements that occur during the intake of the print sheet. The pulses exert an intermittent, uniform or oscillating force onto at least a section of the print sheet. The pulses are controlled by a control unit which operates based on control profiles resulting from queried operating parameters and/or based on stored control profiles.

Transverse sheet withdrawal brake

A method and a device for monitoring a post print processing machine through which printed products are successively transported. An image recording device is assigned to the post print processing machine and connected to a computer unit for recording during each operating cycle an image series with at least two images of a printed product, spaced apart by a time interval. The images of the image series are transmitted to the computer unit and the images are displayed in real time on a display device that is connected to the computer unit.

Method for monitoring a post print processing machine

An apparatus for folding print sheets includes two folding rollers arranged on one side of a guide plane to define a folding gap. A compressed air device is arranged on the other side of the guide plane in a region of the folding gap. The compressed air device is connected to the compressed air source and to the control unit, and includes an exit opening for the compressed air that is focused onto the folding gap. Control elements can be activated by the control unit to change the time interval during which the at least one exit opening is admitted with compressed air, and/or the cross-sectional surface of the exit opening, and the pressure of the compressed air supplied to the exit opening may also be changed by a different control element, to adapt a compressed air blast to properties of the print sheet made available to the folding gap.

System and method for folding printed sheets

An apparatus for folding of print sheets includes a compressed air device that comprises at least two segments with respectively at least one exit opening having a cross-sectional surface and directed toward a folding gap of two folding rollers. Each segment is connected to a compressed air source and a control unit, includes at least one control element and is embodied to be activated separately with compressed air.

An apparatus for supplying book blocks includes a feed conveyor to successively transport the book blocks with optional spacing. A buffer conveyor, arranged downstream of the feed conveyor and connected to a control unit, receives a plurality of the book blocks from the feed conveyor and transports them at a first speed, fitting against each other without a gap. A downstream clocking-in conveyor, coupled to the control unit, respectively receives a single book block from the buffer conveyor at the first speed, accelerates and transports the single book block from the first speed to a second speed. A downstream despatch conveyor includes a plurality of spaced apart pushers defining respective gaps between successive pushers. Each book is transported at the second speed toward the despatch conveyor and is inserted into one of the gaps between two successive pushers on the despatch conveyor.

Method and device for clocking in book blocks

A method and a device for the quality inspection and testing of a flat print product. A print product, including at least one structural element, is initially deposited on a support element and illuminated by at least one light source. At least one image of the illuminated print product is generated using at least one image recording unit. An image is also generated of at least one structural element on the support element and a geometric object of the support element is determined from the at least one structural element of the support element. Actual values for the at least one geometric object of the support element are compared to predetermined desired values for this geometric object and the result of the comparison is used for controlling the further processing of the print product.

Method and device for the quality inspection and testing of flat printed products

The method for producing printed products in which said printed products are composed of printed sheets and for verification of the composition, composition information on at least one printed sheet characterizing said printed sheet with respect to predetermined printed sheet properties is evaluated, whereby during analysis, the composition information of at least one printed sheet is compared to the information of at least one more printed sheet to be assembled using said composition information for production of the same printed product.

Producing printed products and assembly for carrying out said method

An apparatus for measuring a thickness of a printed product conveyed in a conveying direction at a conveying speed. The apparatus includes a conveying device having a guide arrangement along which the printed product is conveyed at the conveying speed in the conveying direction, the guide arrangement including a measuring region that extends in the conveying direction of the guide arrangement. The apparatus further includes a measuring element operative to act on printed sheets of the printed product to measure the thickness of the printed product while the printed product is conveyed across the measuring region and through a measuring gap located between the measuring element and the guide arrangement. The measuring element is arranged to move toward the guide arrangement with a process timing and to move synchronously with the printed product at the conveying speed across the measuring region of the guide arrangement. The apparatus additionally includes an evaluation unit connected to the measuring element.

Device for measuring the thickness of printed products

A device for measuring the thickness of print products in a conveying flow includes a plate capacitor having a first plate and a second plate located on opposite sides of the print products. The plate capacitor is adapted to measure capacitance of the print products passing between the first plate and the second plate. A LC oscillator circuit is attached to the plate capacitor.
