In a device for ambulatory wearing by the patient containing a pump for delivery of injection fluid or for removal of analysis fluid, the drive motor for the mechanically driven pump system is a Lavet-type stepper motor of small size designed for having a high mechanical power and low peak current requirement. Using this Lavet-type motor for syringe-type or peristaltic preferably patch-type pumps high infusion rates needed for e.g. bolus insulin injection or the delivery of therapeutic antibodies are achieved, and important safety features can be easily and reliably controlled, manufacturing costs get significantly reduced, and the overall size and weight of the device becomes smaller, for patient convenience.

Device with a Lavet-type motor

A sub-epidermal electric warning device has electrodes penetrating through the patient's epidermis and bipolar electric warning signals are transmitted to the sub-epidermal tissue by these electrodes. A device for surveillance of vital signs, analyte levels, or treatment parameters is using a sub-epidermal electric warning device for notifying the patient in situations requiring intervention.

Sub-epidermal electric warning device

The subcutaneous injection device contains a pump and a mechanism for inserting a cannula into the patient's skin. The cannula is fixedly positioned relative to the pump and the insertion mechanism has a flexible surface adhering to the skin. The flexible surface is positioned relative to the cannula in such a way that in a first position the tip of the cannula is concealed by the surface and in a second position the cannula is exposed beyond the surface. The insertion mechanism brings the surface from the first to the second position, thereby pulling the skin against the tip of the cannula.

Syringe type pump

A skin insertion mechanism includes a needle fixedly positioned in a needle holder with a connector (or connective means) to an injection or analysis system having a skin attachment plate coated with an adhesive layer and a spacer mechanism kept in the ready-to-use position, the skin attachment plate is spaced away from a needle support covering the needle. Subcutaneous insertion of the needle is effected by attachment of the adhesive layer to the skin and releasing the spacer mechanism by applying a pre-set trigger point pressure against the skin.

Manual pressure activated application mechanism

A subcutaneous access device has a skin attachment plate coated with an adhesive layer. The skin attachment plate is moveably linked by a retraction mechanism to a needle support with fixedly positioned needles. In the ready-to-use position the skin attachment plate is spaced away from the needle support and covers the fixedly positioned needles. Subcutaneous insertion of the needles is effected by attachment of the skin attachment plate with the adhesive layer to the skin and releasing the retraction mechanism, thus triggering the pulling of the attached skin with high velocity against the tip of the needles.

An improved injection device has a casing containing an active substance reservoir, a cannula communicating with the reservoir, a device for inserting the cannula, and pump means for discharging the reservoir contents through the cannula. The cannula 11 is fixed relative to the casing and projects beyond the underside of the casing to the depth required for injection. The cannula is surrounded by a protective element which is moved by a spring drive from a first end position in which the protective device projects beyond the underside of the casing and beyond the cannula to a second end position in which the protective device does not project beyond the underside of the casing.
