A reciprocally-cycled weapon delinks and fires cartridges in open-end linked ammunition belts or close-end linked ammunition belts. The weapon has first round select and first cycle fire capabilities. The bolt carrier assembly translates out of phase with the extractor assembly. The extractor assembly is configured for rearward extraction of the cartridges in close-end linked ammunition belts. The weapon works seamlessly with open-end linked and close-end linked ammunition belts.

Reciprocally-cycled weapon

An ammunition magazine is used with a reciprocally-cycled weapon for delinking and firing cartridges in close-end linked ammunition belts. The magazine includes a housing with an ammunition indexing mechanism fixed to one side of the housing. A magazine feed box is disposed above the ammunition indexing mechanism. The magazine feed box includes a movable follower having an upper and a lower position and cam pins that engage cam slots in the magazine feed box. The movable follower is configured to receive a cartridge from the weapon.

Ammunition magazine for reciprocally-cycled weapon

An externally-operated weapon has a direct current servo motor that provides motive force to drive the weapon operating group at an average rate of fire. Within a single cycle, the weapon operating group is driven at rates greater than and less than the average rate of fire, while the overall rate for a single cycle is maintained at the average rate of fire. Some benefits of servo motor control include reduced power consumption, increased bolt dwell time, expansion of the weapon's battlefield role from one to many roles, and increased accuracy and shot-to-shot precision while firing from an open bolt position.

Motor control for externally-operated weapon

A reduced recoil weapon includes a housing and a receiver translatably disposed in the housing. A barrel is fixed to the receiver. A pair of recoil rods has first ends that are fixed to the receiver and are translatable with respect to the housing. Recoil springs are disposed around each recoil rod with first ends of the recoil springs abutting a forward surface of the housing. A bolt and bolt carrier are translatably disposed in the receiver. A bolt carrier return spring is disposed in the housing between the bolt carrier and a rear surface of the housing. Gas pressure from a gas piston on the barrel translates an operating rod toward the bolt carrier. An operating rod spring disposed in the receiver biases the operating rod toward the gas piston.

Recoil reduction apparatus and method for weapon

A recoil-reducing weapon may include a housing and a receiver translatably disposed in the housing. A barrel may have one end fixed to the receiver and be translatable with respect to the housing. A spring stop may be fixed to the barrel forward of the housing and a spring may be disposed between the spring stop and a front of the housing. An operating group with a gear rack may be translatably disposed in the receiver. A longitudinal member may have one end fixed to the operating group. A counter-mass may have a second gear rack and an opening therein for receiving the longitudinal member. A second spring may be disposed around the longitudinal member. One end of the second spring may bear against the operating group and another end of the second spring may bear against the counter-mass. A pinion gear may be rotatably fixed to the receiver and operable to mesh with the gear rack and the second gear rack.

A weapon may include a translatable recoil mass and two translatable counterweights disposed on opposite sides of the recoil mass. Each counterweight may have a mass that is substantially one-half a mass of the recoil mass. A pair of racks may be fixed to respective ones of the counterweights and a second pair of racks may be fixed to opposites sides of the recoil mass. Pinions may engage the counterweight and recoil mass racks. A receiver may be fixed with respect to the recoil mass and the pair of counterweights. The directions of translation of the recoil mass are substantially opposite directions of translation of the two counterweights.

Apparatus and method for gun recoil mitigation

A kit of modular explosive ordnance disposal components may include five components. The five components may be assembled in various configurations to fire solid slugs, water shots, or fin-stabilized projectiles. Each assembled configuration may include a first component having a generally cylindrical shape, a through-bore, a muzzle end, and a breech end. The muzzle end of the first component may include external threads. The breech end of the first component may include an internally-threaded portion for receiving a .50 caliber breech plug. A .50 caliber cartridge chamber may be formed adjacent the internally-threaded portion. A bore of about one inch in diameter may extend from the .50 caliber cartridge chamber to the muzzle end of the first component.

Modular explosive ordnance disposal system

A feed disengage mechanism for a weapon with a sprocket-type feed system may include a sprocket rotatably fixed to the receiver. A forward pawl may be selectably engageable with a forward end of the sprocket. The forward pawl may include a flange and be biased for engagement with the sprocket. An anti-backup pawl may be selectably engageable with a rear end of the sprocket. The anti-backup pawl may include a cam path and be biased for engagement with the sprocket. A feed cover may include a feed slide assembly that may be translatable in a slot in the feed cover. The feed slide assembly may include a front pin engageable with the flange of the forward pawl and a rear pin engageable with the cam path of the anti-backup pawl.
