An electro-optical display device with a transparent cover and a display, a transparent bonding material being present between the electro-optical display and the transparent cover, the transparent cover being part of a tray, the sides of the tray being designed as a frame, the lateral surfaces of the electro-optical display being surrounded by the frame in a form-fitting manner and the electro-optical display being connected to the frame.

A method for producing a display unit includes: inserting a covering glass into a first holder of a positioning device until the covering glass lies on a first contact surface parallel to the covering glass; thereafter inserting a bonding frame into a second holder of the positioning device until the bonding frame lies on a second contact surface parallel to the first contact surface. The bonding frame has a leg parallel to the covering glass, the peripheral edge of which leg directed toward the covering glass surrounds the peripheral edge of the covering glass at a distance forming a groove. Thereafter the groove between the covering glass and the leg of the bonding frame is filled with a first adhesive that connects these two parts to each other, and thereafter the surface of the covering glass facing away from an observer is covered with the layer of transparent bonding mass.

A display with an electro-optical display module has a display area, with a light-transmissive cover arranged between the display area and a possible observer of the display area. The light-transmissive cover is bonded onto the display area by an adhesive, and provision is made for the surface of the light-transmission cover to be configured in a three-dimensional fashion.

A display for displaying variable and permanent data. It has two support plates 1 and 2 which form between themselves a chamber 3 in which a fluid which can be switched between optically different states is arranged. Polarizers are arranged on the sides of the support plates 1 and 2 which face away from the chamber 3. In the region of permanent data, transparent elements 14 are present between the support plates 1 and 2. Furthermore, a source of light 15 is arranged on the side of the cell facing away from the observer. The variable data consists of bright data against a dark background. The observer's side of the cell is provided with a light-impervious layer 8 which has cutouts 9 and 10 in the region of the variable data as well as in correspondence with the permanent data. A transflective layer is disposed in the cutput region to enable viewing the cutout region and permanent data via incident light.

A passive electro-optical indicating element for displaying information, such as alpha-numerical characters having two spaced, transparent electrode supports which together enclose a liquid crystal substance and are provided on their surfaces opposite said liquid crystal substance with respective polarizers, have the surface facing the observer of the polarizer located on the front electrode support coated with a thin layer of a transparent curable lacquer, in which inorganic fillers are suspended in the prepared lacquer in an amount between 2 and 10 percent by weight.
