A relatively great number of embroidering locations with the appropriate embroidering implements are arranged in at least one row. The embroidering implements are capable of being coupled to and uncoupled from the embroidering implement drive of the embroidering machine according to a predetermined repetition and color-change program by electromagnetic actuation devices. Therefore, according to the invention, a so-called group-switching of the embroidering locations, respectively of their electromagnets, is performed such that groups of a few embroidering locations, respectively their electromagnetic actuation devices, form switching groups or units. The electromagnetic actuation devices of each switching unit are connected in parallel at their input sides. An input conductor common to the switching unit connects them to the embroidering location control device. A number of output conductors corresponding to the number of electromagnetic actuation devices per switching unit connects the individual electromagnetic actuation devices at their output sides in series with the embroidering location control device. A minimum of electrical conductors and a very rapid switching of all switching groups is attained with a minimum of power consumption by these measures and by an optimum choice of the number of grouped embroidering locations, in this case for instance four per switching unit.

Embroidering machine

A freely rotatably mounted roll body couplingly engageable with a brake shaft comprises an exchangeable thread brake liner. The rotatable roll body carrying the thread brake liner in a groove is exchangeably mounted between stationary guide discs which extend radially beyond the roll body on both sides and form a radial continuation of walls of the roll body, laterally defining a thread groove with their radially protruding portions and between which the roll body is exchangeably arranged.

A relatively great number of embroidering locations with the appropriate embroidering implements are arranged in at least one row. The embroidering implements are capable of being coupled to and uncoupled from the embroidering implement drive of the embroidering machine according to a predetermined repetition and color-change program by electromagnetic actuation devices. The pattern and machine-function control of the embroidering machine is performed via a data carrier whose reading and evaluation unit controls a pattern and machine-function control device. Data for the repetition and color-change program are also placed on this data carrier for pattern and machine-function control. Suitable further data are also placed on this data carrier for actuating a switch associated with the reading and evaluation unit for transmitting the repetition and color-change program to an embroidering location control device connected to the electromagnetic actuation devices of the embroidering implements. The employment of the same data carrier hitherto employed for pattern and machine-function control also for the repetition and color-change programs, has the great advantage that all devices for introducing or correcting data on the data carrier, for reading such data and for archiving the data carriers can be retained and that there can be used a relatively uncomplicated design for the control switch and the embroidering location control device.

The needle of an individual embroidery location of a multitude or row of linearly arranged embroidery locations in an embroidery machine is mounted at an axially displaceably guided needle carrier. According to a programmed control and by means of a related switching lever the needle can be individually coupled to or decoupled from an oscillating drive rail which is common to all the needles of the row. A thread guiding roller which is journaled for free rotation at a roller supporting lever and associated with a related one of the needles supplies a thread to the related needle. Simultaneously with the coupling or decoupling of the needle to the oscillating drive rail the roller supporting lever is pivoted between an operative position and an inoperative position in which the thread guiding roller is respectively coupled to or decoupled from a braking member which is common to all embroidery locations. The driving connection arrangement between the thread guiding roller and the common braking member is designed to act in the manner of a reducing gear, so that a rotary movement of the thread guiding roller causes a significantly less extensive rotary movement of the common braking member. The pivoting of the roller supporting lever is effected via a connecting member which may constitute a cord or a wire and which is connected to the switching lever which activates or deactivates the related embroidery location.

A positioning device for a mechanical switching lever arrangement in an embroidery machine comprises an electromagnetic device which serves for displacing a pawl lever between a first end position and an intermediate position. The pawl lever serves for actuating a switching lever arrangement. The positioning device further comprises a mechanical amplifier device for displacing the pawl lever between the aforementioned intermediate position and a second end position. At its free end region the pawl lever carries a permanent magnet which continuously adheres to the electromagnet when the same is deenergized. The mechanical amplifier device, which cooperates with the pawl lever, comprises an externally actuatable switching lever arrangement. By pivoting this switching lever arrangement the pawl lever can be displaced from its intermediate position to the second end position and vice versa. In this way there can be initiated, at first, a displacement operation, by means of a relatively small arrangement of magnets, whereupon the actual positioning or adjustment work is carried out exclusively by means of the mechanical amplifier.

Electromagnetic pattern selector for an embroidery machine

At an embroidery machine there are mounted and displaceably guided two rows of embroidering implement rods which can be connected so as to be operatively coupled or decoupled in accordance with a desired program to a related one of two operatively associated oscillating drive rails. The embroidering implement rods which are related to the same embroidery location or position and which are, for instance, arranged in superimposed relation, can be simultaneously coupled to or decoupled from the operatively associated drive rail by means of a common switching lever. This switching lever can be actuated either directly or manually by means of adjustment levers and automatically by means of an electromagnetic device. This individual switching of all implements of an embroidery location enables easily adjusting any desired combination of working and inactive embroidery locations.
