A patient care unit () with a reclining surface has one or more docking devices designed as inductive coupling sites () for medical technical devices (), which consume electrical energy and can be connected to the patient care unit. The inductive coupling sites () also supply the patient care unit () with electrical energy by means of an external line connection, which is likewise coupled inductively with the patient care unit ().

A breathing gas supply device is provided which can be taken apart for cleaning purposes. The breathing gas supply device has a modular design in the form of a breathing gas module () and a blower module (), which are inserted together into a housing module ().

A measuring head for the determination of the concentration of a paramagnetic gas in a gas sample has first and second housing parts () made of a steel alloy for accommodating a magnet coil body () each. The magnet coil bodies extend concentrically around the central axis of each housing part (). Metallic bars (), which are used as magnet poles for the measuring head, are located at spaced locations with a defined air gap in the assembled state of the measuring head. The bars are arranged in the center of the measuring head in the area of the central axis of the housing parts (). A sample gas cuvette support () is provided in the air gap between the housing parts () for positioning a sample gas cuvette holder (). The sample gas cuvette support () is provided with a gas inlet and gas outlet ().

A compact device for supporting respiration is provided making possible a mobile, autonomous, pressure-supported respiration of patients near the lungs with very small dead spaces and flow resistances. The device is especially useful for medical applications. The device includes a rotary compressor () with an electric drive motor provided with a filter () arranged directly upstream in the direction of flow. The compressor () is arranged directly upstream of a breathing mask () or a breathing tube. A control unit () is provided for setting respiration pressure on a basis of speed of rotation. The control unit () is connected to the drive motor of the compressor ().

Device for supporting respiration

A radial compressor is provided for respiration purposes. The sound emissions generated by deflections and separations of the gas flow in the compressor wheel and the housing of the radial compressor and by the high-speed motor of the radial compressor are reduced. This is achieved with a specially shaped passage channel ( ) for the volume flow, which exerts a stabilizing effect on the volume flow utilizing the Bernoulli principle of flow. Additional sound reduction is provided by using a separate mass ( ) arranged between the motor ( ) and the housing ( ), which absorbs the sound energy generated by the high-speed motor ( ). Also sound reduction is provided by suspending the radial compressor with membranes in a closed capsule.
