The invention comprises a method and a system in a paper machine, and also a software product, allowing one or more tools to be generated for indicating the state of the paper production process in terms of energy consumption to the operating staff of the paper machine. This allows continual monitoring of the state of the paper production process and/or its energy efficiency combined with efforts to develop the manners of running the paper machine and its dryer section in a more favourable direction. In one embodiment of the invention, the dry solids content DSC of the press section can be calculated by means of the evaporation amount of the dryer section, the production of finished paper and the final paper moisture as follows: DSC=m/(m+m), in which mis the dry mass flow of the paper web to the dryer section and mis the water mass flow to the dryer section. mis obtained by summing up the mass flow of the water discharged from the dryer section and the evaporated water mass flow.

Method and system in a paper machine and software product

The narrow-scale moisture profile of a paper web is controlled by profiling nozzles () of a profiling device () which cover part of the width of the web and desired variations of the moisture profile are corrected by the profiling nozzles (). Coating quantity profile of a paper web may also be controlled. The narrow-scale coating quantity profile is controlled by profiling nozzles () of a profiling device () which cover part of the width of the web and desired variations of the coating quantity profile are corrected by the profiling nozzles (). Method and device for controlling the moisture or coating quantity profile in a paper web

The invention relates to an air impingement system arranged outside the jacket of an air impingement roll in the drying section of a paper machine or the like for heating and drying a web travelling around the said air impingement roll. The air impingement system comprises a mainly closed hood, which has control means for directing air onto the paper web. From the hood, air is directed by blowing with at least one fan to the blower nozzles and back again into the said hood as a circulation air process, and the system incorporates at least one heating device for heating the air. The air impingement system's hood and its said equipment are used in conjunction with an air impingement roll, which is of the size of approximately 1.5&#x2013;2 m in diameter. The hood of the air impingement roll is at maximum 5 m high, preferably only 1.5&#x2013;2.5 m high.

Impingement system in the drying section of a paper machine or the like

A method and apparatus for controlling the drying process taking place in the dryer section of a paper machine or the like. The total drying efficiency required in the dryer section is first calculated by means of a method known as such, and an optimal drying efficiency distribution is compiled. Using the optimal drying efficiency distribution, the dryer section is divided into two or more imaginary drying segments which differ in their drying action, in at least one of which segments there are at least two dryer units using different forms of energy and/or at least two separately adjustable dryer units using the same form of energy. The total drying efficiency obtained is divided, by means of an optimization method known as such, between the said different drying segments in such a way that a good drying efficiency distribution is achieved in terms of the quality of the web being dried.

Method and apparatus for controlling the drying process in a drying section of a paper machine or the like

A method for controlling the drying process taking place in the dryer section of a paper machine. The dryer section comprises at least one drying cylinder unit and at least one air impingement unit. Optimal evaporation is first compiled in a manner known, for example, on the basis of a recipe or by utilising a machine-direction quality model or quality profile, when the geometry of the dryer section, the process parametersrequired, such as machine speed, paper grade and total evaporation required are known. Limit values are calculated for at least two controlled variables of the dryer section, such as the steam pressure and the temperature of blowing air, making use of drying quality models, such as models representing the adhesion and brightness of paper. After this the dryer section is divided an the basis of the distribution formed by the limit values of the controlled variables into drying segments, so that in two adjacent segments, the limit value of at least one controlled variable is different. The drying process is controlled by adjusting the controlled variables in each drying segment, within the limit values of the controlled variables.

Method of controlling the drying process in a drying section of a paper machine or the like

A method and apparatus effect drying of a paper web using a plurality of heated drying cylinders and at least one air impingement module having a hood. The paper web is brought into operative contact with the heated drying cylinders, and at least one of the final moisture content, quality, and cross-direction profile of the paper web is regulated. The regulation is effected by adjusting the efficiency of air impingement drying of the paper web, by adjusting at least one of the blowing velocity of the medium (typically air) blown against the paper web, the humidity of the blowing medium, and the distance of the hood of the impingement module from the paper web. At least one of the final moisture content of the paper web and its quality may also be regulated by adjusting the steam pressure of one or more drying cylinder groups. Typically the final moisture content of the web is measured after the last drying cylinder group and the efficiency of air impingement drying is regulated on the basis of that measurement.

Method and apparatus for drying a paper web

A method and device effect controlled uniform temperature drying of a wet web, such as a paper web substantially immediately after formation in a paper machine, without damaging the supporting fabric carrying the web. The web has a central region and first and second border regions. The wet web to be dried is conveyed on a conventional supporting fabric/wire in a first direction generally parallel to the web border regions, and in a hood drying air is blown against the web from the opposite side thereof as the supporting fabric so that the drying air picks up moisture and becomes moistened air. The moistened air is discharged from the volume adjacent the hood, for example is discharged from at least one hood positioned at and encompassing an impingement surface over which the web and supporting fabric pass. Air supplied for blowing against the web is heated to raise its ability to retain moisture. Drying air with a first temperature and first velocity is directed against a central region of the web, and drying air with a second temperature, lower than the first temperature, and second velocity, higher than the first velocity, is directed against the web in the border regions. The hood may be divided into at least one central block and first and second border blocks, corresponding to the central region and first and second border regions of the web. A first plurality of air nozzles may be disposed within the hood central block, and second and third plurality of air nozzles disposed in the hood first and second border blocks, with a different fan and heater supplying air to each of the plurality of air nozzles.

Method and apparatus for controlling the temperature in a paper machine

An arrangement for impingement drying and/or through-drying of a paper or material web in which the web is dried by blowing hot air and/or superheated steam from an impingement drying and/or through-drying dryer in a direction substantially perpendicular to the web, and the web runs on support of a wire or equivalent past the dryer. In the area of the dryer, the web and wire are supported from the opposite side of the wire, opposite in relation to the web, by blowings produced from one or more vacuum blow boxes substantially across the entire width of the web. The outlet direction of the blowings may be substantially the same as the running direction of the drying wire and as such, steam and/or air is/are ejected out of the space between the drying wire and the wall placed in connection with the blow boxes that produce the blowings. A second set of blowings from the blow boxes may be blown in the direction opposite to the running direction of the wire so as to seal the area of vacuum between the wire and the blow box. Also, the blowings may be arranged to reduce the pressure in a gap formed at an edge of the blow box and thereby maintain the web on the wire.

Arrangements for impingement drying and/or through-drying of a paper or

A dryer section of a paper machine including groups with single-wire draw that include a drying wire guided in a loop and reversing cylinders arranged in the drying-wire loop. Contact drying cylinders are arranged in gaps between the reversing cylinder and the drying wire is guided to press a web against heated faces of the contact drying cylinders. In addition to normal, small-diameter contact drying cylinders, one or more large-diameter contact drying cylinders (the diameter being greater than about 2200 mm and usually in a range from 2200 mm to 3600 mm), is/are used in one or more single-wire draw groups. An impingement-drying/ventilation hood is arranged above the large-diameter contact drying cylinders and extends on a large sector above the contact drying cylinder and above the drying wire and the web running over the cylinder. An impingement-drying/ventilation effect is applied to the drying wire through the impingement-drying/ventilation hoods on the large sector. By means of the effect, a moist boundary layer in contact with the drying wire is disintegrated and drying is promoted from a side of a face of the web opposite to the web face that is placed against the contact drying cylinders.

Dryer section in a paper machine in which impingement and/or ventilation

A method and apparatus for impingement drying and/or through-drying of a paper or material web in which the web is dried by blowing hot air and/or superheated steam and/or equivalent from an impingement drying device in a direction substantially perpendicular to the web, and the web is passed on support of a wire or equivalent past the impingement drying device. In the area of the impingement drying device, the web and wire are supported from the opposite side of the wire, opposite in relation to the web, by blowings produced from vacuum blow box substantially across the entire width of the web. One set of blowings from the blow box are blown at a speed substantially higher than the speed of the drying wire. The outlet direction of the blowings is substantially the same as the running direction of the drying wire in this area, and as such, steam and/or air is/are ejected out of the space between the drying wire and the wall placed in connection with the blow boxes that produce the blowings. A second set of blowings from the blow boxes are blown in the direction opposite to the running direction of the wire so as to seal the area of vacuum between the wire and the blow box. Substantially the same medium may be used as the blow medium in the blow box as is used in the impingement drying device.
