Exhaust gas aftertreatment units are provided. The units have an encapsulated design that is constructed in a modular manner from disk-shaped components. Exhaust gas flow occurs in the direction of a disk plane, wherein the components are surrounded by frames that are consecutively, in particular elastically, connected and clamped to each other transverse to the disk plane.

An exhaust post-treatment device is designed in a layered fashion and comprises an exhaust cleaning arrangement lying between a supply chamber and a transition chamber with soot filters lying at both sides of a denitrification-catalytic converter unit, with the transition chamber comprising a mixing chamber open towards the denitrification-catalytic converter unit, in which starting at the soot filters via separate guide channels, the exhaust is injected in the opposite direction of flow and which mixing chamber is limited by guide panels, which form walls of the guide channels extending encompassing along the housing towards the mixing chamber.

Disclosed is a liquid cooled internal combustion engine, comprising a plurality of cooling circuits and one or several liquid radiators connected thereto. In order to produce one of several possible configurations of cooling circuits and liquid radiators, a cooling liquid guide housing comprising a plurality of first flow sections associated with the cooling circuits, a distributor housing comprising a plurality of second flow sections which are connected to the liquid radiators, and an intermediate element arranged between the liquid guide housing and the distributor housing are provided. The intermediate element has a specific arrangement of open passage sections between the first flow sections of the cooling liquid guide housing and the second flow sections of the distributor housing, corresponding to one of several possible configurations of cooling circuits and liquid radiators.

The production of harmful substances during the operation of multi-cylinder diesel engines is reduced by separating the cylinders of the engine into two groups in combination with an exhaust gas return from one group to the other. The first group includes a plurality of the cylinders (2 to 6). The second group includes at least one cylinder (7), which is separated from the first group as far as combustion is concerned. A first fresh air suction intake (9) supplies fresh air to the group of first cylinders (2 to 6). An exhaust gas return device (24) feeds either directly or indirectly exhaust gas from the at least one second cylinder (7) through the first fresh air suction intake (9) to the group of first cylinders (2 to 6). The invention relates to an exhaust gas line for internal-combustion engines which is essentially free of tension at normal engine operating temperature. The exhaust gas line is enclosed by a water-cooled and gastight housing and is manufactured from a helically wound metal strip. Tensions that are the result of axial thermal expansion due to the temperature of the engine are avoided because the edges of the metal strip, in a cold state of the exhaust gas line, are aligned with respect to each other to produce a helical gap therebetween. The gap is just closed due to axial expansion of the exhaust gas line at normal engine operating temperature. Tensions that result from a radial expansion of the exhaust gas line are avoided because the exhaust gas line is mounted in a cold state while being subjected to a radial prestress. The prestress is just compensated for as a result of radial expansion at the normal engine operating temperature. The exhaust line is mounted to an engine housing by fasteners extending through bores in the metal strip. A jig and method for determining the location of the bores along the metal strip is provided.
