Safety device for a pyrotechnic impact fuse of a ballistic high explosive shell

A fuse-less ballistic explosive projectile (1) with a great fragmentation effect has a secondary explosive (50) with a special structure (75), the secondary explosive detonating upon impact. The secondary explosive (50) surrounds within a projectile cap (24) a conical projection (30) of a penetration core (18). Transmission of the firing effect from the secondary explosive (50) is effected through a central through bore (40) of the penetration core (18) to a large-volume bursting charge (60) arranged in a projectile body (10).

Fuseless ballistic explosive projectile

An explosive projectile (10) with a projectile casing (12), a ballistic hood (14), an explosive charge (26) located within of the projectile casing (12), a base detonator (28) and a fragment packing (32) which is located towards the head end of the projectile. The ballistic hood (14) is constructed so as to be readily destroyable or, respectively, constituted of a readily destroyable material. The projectile casing is closed at its forward end and provided with a recess (30) in which there is arranged the fragment packing (32). The fragment packing (32) at the forward end thereof bounds the explosive charge (26).

Explosive projectile

A ballistic projectile including a subcaliber-sized penetrator which is coaxially carried in the casing of the projectile, and in which the penetrator additionally carries an explosive charge. The projectile possesses a proximity fuze at its tip which electrically triggers a penetrator-propellent charge which is arranged in the projectile base and which fills the volume of the projectile base, which accelerates the penetrator through a therebetween arranged propellant base, and in which the penetrator additionally possesses an impact detonator.

Projectile

A safe-and-arm or securing device for the fuze of a spinning or spin-stabilized projectile which includes a fuze member and a supporting member in which a spherical rotor is rotatably supported and which has a radial groove formed therein. The rotor possesses a bore having a detonator inserted therein, and in a peripheral region incorporates a grooves which extends along a plane which is axially offset relative to the radial groove, and with a spreadably or expandable restraining medium being inserted into the groove. The restraining medium releases the rotor which is retained in its secured position only subsequent to the firing of the projectile through the securing element which is spreadable and axially displaceable under the effect of axial and spin forces and which allows the rotor, after its release, to be pivoted in conjunction with the detonator into the armed position.

Safe-and-arm device for the fuze of a spin-stabilized projectile

A safe-and-arm or securing device for the fuze of a spinning or spin-stabilized projectile which includes a fuze member and a supporting member in which a spherical rotor is rotatably supported, and which has a radial groove formed therein. The rotor possesses a bore having a detonator inserted therein, and in a peripheral region incorporates a groove which extends along a plane which is axially offset relative to the radial groove, and with a spreadable or expandable restraining medium being inserted into the groove. The restraining medium releases the rotor which is retained in its secured position only subsequent to the firing of the projectile through the securing element which is spreadable and axially displaceable under the effect of axial and spin forces and which allows the rotor, after its release, to be pioted in conjuction with the detonator into the armed position.

An impact or percussion detonator including a detonator cap which is piercable by a striker or firing pin actuated by a spring force from the rear end of the detonator, including a mechanical retarding or delay arrangement incorporating blocking members which, in their blocking position are located, on the one side, in recesses provided in the striker and on the other side, in recesses provided in a detonator component. The detonator component is constituted of an axially movable securing sleeve, and a recess which receives the blocking members is provided a base member fastened to a housing of the detonator at a distance in the direction towards detonating.

Impact detonator with a detonator cap

A self-destruct device for the detonators of spin-stabilized projectiles, wherein a generally crescent-shaped locking lever is pivotably supported on a circular disc-shaped plate which extends perpendicular to the longitudinal projectile axis. In its extended position, the locking lever engages below a spring-loaded percussion sleeve arranged so as to be axially displaceable on the firing pin which, in turn, is latched by means of the hook on a tripping lever which can be swung outwardly against the force of a spring engaging therewith during firing as a result of the centrifugal force exerted thereon caused by the projectile spin. The arm of the tripping lever which sustains the centrifugal force is subordinated in its extended position to a safety support which is fastened on the plate and, subsequent to the outward pivoting of the tripping lever, and also through the centrifugal force, is radially displaceable and thereby releases the tripping lever. As a result, upon a dropoff in the rotational speed of the projectile, the tripping lever unlatches the percussion sleeve through the locking lever, whereupon the percussion sleeve impacts against a shoulder or the like on the firing pin, and permits the latter to force itself into the detonator capsule of the detonator.

Self-destruct device for spin-stabilized projectile detonators

In small-caliber, barreled-weapon ammunition with head or base fuses, detonator safety is achieved in that the inadvertantly ignited detonator which is a secure position within a rotor remains without effect on an intensifying charge. Measures are provided for the gas to expand within the fuse and the energy of the rotor fragments used up so that the gas expanding direction and the flight direction of the fragments face away from the explosives of the intensifying charge. Expansion chambers are formed by recesses in the fuse for safety devices adjacent the rotor, such as different centrifugal force-dependent safety devices for the firing pin which are separated from each other by breaking locations destroyable by the gas.
