An optical rotary transmitter which ensures the reliable transmission of optical signals in conjunction with a comparatively simple construction comprises two parts spaced apart from one another which are rotatable relative to one another about a common centre axis and the first of which comprises a first circular light coupler () and the second of which comprises a second circular light coupler (). The light entrance and light exit surfaces of the two light couplers face one another. Each of the light couplers () consists of collimators () combined to form a respective collimator arrangement (), optical coupling elements () being connected to said collimators.

Optical rotary transmitter

A pencil has a pencil casing made of a sharpenable casing material and a core held in a central receiving bore in the casing material that extends in the longitudinal direction of the pencil. One or more optical fibers made of a sharpenable material is/are arranged in the pencil casing. The optical fiber or optical fibers extends in the longitudinal direction as well and are at least partially surrounded by the material of the pencil casing. A light entry surface of the at least one optical fiber is arranged at the rear end of the pencil casing such that a light source, which is present there, can be used to inject light to said light entry surface. The light exit surface of the optical fiber exits at the forward end of the pencil casing.

Luminous pencil

An optical fiber sensor has a measurement path and a reference path. Both paths each consist of two optical fibers and are fed with modulated light. The fibers of the reference path have a predefined difference in length, whereas the fibers of the measurement path are the same length. All fibers are at approximately the same temperature. An evaluation circuit determines the phase differences in each case between the fibers of the measurement path and of the reference path. A measurement value calculated from the phase differences is then output.

A device for receiving optical signals comprising a light-guiding object having an irradiation surface for receiving optical signals adjacent to a propagation path along which light primarily travels within the light-guiding means. The light-guiding object is substantially constructed of a synthetic material capable of causing elastic dispersion of optical signals received through the irradiation surface at angles between about 0 and 90 degrees relative to the irradiation surface. The synthetic material is further capable of undergoing a population inversion by energetic excitation. The system further includes an excitation unit for inducing a population inversion within the synthetic material. An optical signal is coupled into the light-guiding means through the irradiation surface resulting in a radiation component of the optical signal in the direction of the propagation path of the light-guiding object due to elastic dispersion of the optical signal caused by the synthetic material. A detector means optically coupled to the light-guiding object detects the amplified optical signal having an emission wavelength that corresponds to the wavelength of the original optical signal. The amplified optical signal is produced by stimulated emission from the synthetic material caused by the radiation component of the optical signal.

Optical rotating data transmission device having an unobstructed inner diameter

A device and a method for detecting deposits on surfaces includes a body having a surface on which deposits occur and influence reflection properties of the surface to electromagnetic radiation. A transmitter transmits electromagnetic radiation to the body and a detector detects the presence of the deposits at the surface. The detector measures electromagnetic radiation received from the transmitter after reflection at the surface. Preferably, the device and method are used in a liquid-conveying machine, particularly, a washing machine and/or a dishwasher. Particularly, light is introduced into the light-guiding body to detect the presence of the deposits. The light is internally reflected by the surface and is guided to a sensor. If deposits occur on the surface, the deposits affect the light-reflecting properties of the surface, and the affect is detected by the sensor.

Devices for providing optical signal transmissions between a transmitter unit and a receiving unit which is mobile relative to the transmitter unit. The units are optically coupled to each other via an optical transfer medium, and thus improve transmission quality by eliminating, or greatly reducing interferences that affect the transmission quality.

A process for the manufacturing a fiber optic depolarizer as well as an arrangement of that type uses two optical fiber sections which obtain the polarization planes of the light and which are connected with one another in such a manner that the principal axes of the optical fiber sections enclose an angle of 45.degree.. An optical fiber piece which obtains no polarization is inserted between the optical fiber sections whose principal axes enclose an angle of 45.degree., in that the optical fiber sections and the optical fiber piece are fixed to one another at their connecting areas. The principal axis orientations of the optical fiber sections are adjusted in such a manner that, in the case of a firm positioning of one of the two connecting areas by the torsional twisting of the other connecting area, an angle of 45.degree. is adjusted.

Fiber-optic depolarizer

In the case of a fiber optic gyro having a 4.times.4-coupler, the two arms of the coupler which are not connected with the fiber coil are each connected with a monitoring detector. From the output signals of these monitoring detectors, in the case of a desired wavelength, a reference or desired quotient is formed. During the operation of the fiber optic gyro, an actual quotient is in each case formed from these output signals and is compared with the stored desired quotient. The wavelength of a semiconductor laser is controlled by controlling the operating current and/or the temperature of the light source (L) such that the two quotients are identical. The measuring signals will then be error free.

Process and an apparatus for correcting the measuring signals of a fiber

The protective cladding for a mono-mode directional coupler made of at least two incoming and outgoing fiber optic waveguides which are fused to one another along a coupling segment comprises at least two open cladding parts which can be connected to form a tube-shaped cladding. The material of the cladding parts has the same coefficient of expansion as the waveguide material of the mono-mode directional coupler. The protective cladding, being mechanically tightly connected with the incoming and outgoing fiber optic waveguides while leaving open the coupling segment of the mono-mode directional coupler, is closed off in a gas-tight manner such that in the case of temperature changes, there are no mechanical tensions in the coupling segment.
