A weft insertion apparatus for a series shed weaving machine contains a unit of fixed location with a plurality of passages (,) and with a plurality of nozzles (,) and a unit which rotates with the weaving rotor (,) with a plurality of nozzles (,) to draw off the weft threads which are supplied to the passages and to shoot them successively into the shed. This apparatus enables the insertion of weft threads of different kinds in rapid succession.

The clutch element for coupling and uncoupling the coupling elements of the shaft coupling arrangement is rotatably mounted on one coupling element and is rotated by an actuating tool external to the clutch element. The tool includes a drive shaft, crank webs which extend transversely of the drive shaft and a pair of rollers which are disposed externally of the coupling elements. The clutch element includes a pair of wedges sandwiched between two circular segment plates and pivotally mounted on a projection of a push rod. The wedges engage in pockets on the exterior of the coupling elements.

The actuating tool for coupling and uncoupling the coupling elements of the shaft coupling arrangement is rotatably mounted in the loom frame externally of the coupling elements. The tool includes a drive shaft, crank webs which extend transversely of the drive shaft and a pair of rollers which are disposed externally of the coupling elements. Upon pivoting of the tool, the rollers effect coupling or uncoupling of the coupling elements. The tool may be operated automatically and may be constructed so as to guide the individual push rods of the shaft drive when loom shafts are not present.

The coupling device has a sleeve formed with a cavity to receive a coupling member of the heald frame. A pair of projections are provided within the sleeve for engaging in mating recesses of the coupling member and widenings are provided in the sleeve to permit pivoting of the sleeve and member relative to each other. When in a coupled state, the projections are engaged within the recesses. When in an uncoupled position, the member is free to be lifted vertically out of the sleeve.
