The invention relates to a process for preparing N-substituted 3&#x3b2;-aminonortropanes of formula I wherein Rhas the meaning given in the claims, from the corresponding 3-oxonortropane or the corresponding 3&#x3b1;-aminonortropane, in which the latter is converted with an arylmethylamine or an arylaldehyde into the corresponding imines which are then tautomerised or isomerised and then hydrolysed.
