The invention relates to a support apparatus on which a patient can be supported in a comfortable and secure manner for the preparation for an examination and for the examination, in particular an endorectal biopsy. The support apparatus comprises a sliding apparatus connected to a bearing substructure and is supported in a displaceable manner on the sliding apparatus so that it can be moved partially beyond the substructure connected to the sliding apparatus. The support apparatus also comprises a cutout. The invention also relates to a patient support table comprising a connecting apparatus to connect the patient support table to the support apparatus and serving as a bearing substructure for the support apparatus. A medical device, in particular an MR device, is also disclosed comprising a patient tunnel and the patient support table that can be introduced into the patient tunnel.

A device for MR-guided endorectal prostate biopsy has a biopsy guidance device connected to an MR system that is secured to the patient support table, and is alignable via the MR system for alignment and guidance of the biopsy needle into a preselectable target area. The biopsy guidance device contains MR-imaging markers and is provided with a trajectory setting mechanism at which the previously selected and calculated trajectory can be set.

In a method and computer program product for operating a tomographic imaging apparatus, a standard measurement protocol is generated by displaying a planning representation of a standard object, defining a spatial position of a standard imaging area in the planning representation, and storing, as the standard measurement protocol for the standard object, a reference to the standard object and parameters of the standard imaging area. Such a standard measurement protocol can then be used in the slice position planning for an actual tomographic measurement, by obtaining data representing features of an examination object, corresponding to the standard object, determining a geometrical relation of the features of the examination object to features of the standard object, and generating an object-specific measurement protocol wherein the imaging area is positioned relative to the examination object by modification of the standard measurement protocol.
