A cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) assistance device () is described for use by a rescuer providing manual CPR. The device has a visual indicator () arranged about its periphery, such that visual assistance to the rescuer can be provided regardless of the rescuer' s hand position. The CPR assistance device also includes a staged method of providing visual assistance, such that increasingly urgent information is provided if the sensed CPR accuracy fails to improve.

Peel and stick CPR assistance device

A training adapter () for an automated external defibrillator (AED) () which provides for safe training use of any AED. The training adapter includes a circuit which ensures that any defibrillation voltage/current is shunted away from the trainee, training electrodes (), and patient simulation equipment. The training adapter simultaneously provides to the AED a simulated patient ECG signal which causes the AED to operate as if an actual cardiac rescue were occurring, thus heightening the realism of the training experience.

Universal AED training adapter

A CPR guidance device for placement and use on the chest of an adult patient. The device guides a rescuer in the application of an adult CPR protocol. The device also senses patient characteristics indicative of an infant patient. If the device senses that the patient in an infant, it appropriately warns the rescuer that the device is for adult patient use only.

An improved defibrillator electrode () has two separate peel tabs (). At least one of the peel tabs is located on the same edge of the electrode backing as that of the electrode wire. The disposition of the peel tabs improves the ability of the rescuer to apply the electrodes to a patient after the electrodes are removed from the release liner (). In addition, the peel tab reduces the risk of damage to the electrode during removal from the release liner.

Pediatric mode key for defibrillator

An automatic external defibrillator is shipped from the manufacturer with the battery installed in the battery compartment of the AED. During shipment a removable tab is located between a battery terminal and an electrical contact inside the battery compartment. Upon receipt of the AED the user pulls the tab to remove it from the battery compartment. This completes the circuit between the AED and its battery and the AED begins a self-test. A packaging panel covers the controls of the AED to prevent actuation of controls during the self-test. The packaging panel includes instructions for setup of the AED including indication of a control to actuate during or at the conclusion of the self-test.

OTC automatic external defibrillator with quick install battery

An electrode includes a conductive adhesive layer and a conductive foil layer having a void therein. One such electrode may be mounted in conjunction with another electrode upon a release liner having one or more openings therein to facilitate electrical signal exchange between electrodes. A release liner may include a moisture permeable and/or moisture absorbent membrane. A release liner may alternatively include a conductive backing layer. A release liner may also include an insulating swatch covering an opening. A release liner may be implemented as a foldable sheet, such that multiple electrodes may be mounted upon the same side of the foldable sheet. A medical device to which the mounted electrodes are coupled may characterize the electrical path between the electrodes. The medical device may perform a variety of electrical measurements, including real and/or complex impedance measurements. Based upon one or more measurements, the medical device may provide an indication of electrode condition, fitness for use, and/or an estimated remaining lifetime. An electrode condition indicator, which may form a portion of the medical device, may generate, present, or display electrode condition and/or estimated remaining lifetime information via a visual metaphor, such as a fuel gauge.

Medical electrode and release liner configurations facilitating packaged electrode characterization

Electrodes are capable of delivering synchronized cardioversion and pacing energy pulses as well as defibrillation energy pulses to a patient. The electrodes are also appropriate for use with an automatic or semi-automatic external defibrillator (AED) as well as defibrillators capable of cardioversion and manual defibrillators. The electrodes have a plurality of conductors sized for delivering electrotherapy to patients of different sizes. Preferably, conductors can be used singly or in combination for therapy. The electrodes may also be separated to form electrodes of smaller dimension for application to a smaller patient.
