An advancing support frame is connected to the face conveyor (9) via an advancing rod (7) engaging with the advancing cylinder (5). A lifting cylinder (10) is supported on the advancing rod (7), with which the base shoes (1) are lifted during the advancing process. The lifting cylinder (10) is guided so as to be able to move in height in longitudinal guides (15) on the inner sides of the base shoes (1). A U-shaped tension stirrup (18), whose shanks (19) directed towards the ground have elongated holes (20), is supported centrally by the lifting cylinder (10) and joined to the base shoes (1) via carrying bolts (21) fastened to them.

An hydraulic walking roof-support frame for a coal mine has a roof support assembly comprising a main support and an auxiliary support pivotally connected to the main support for pivoting about a horizontal axis through an angle of 180.degree.. The auxiliary support is caused to pivot by a pair of hydraulically operated extensible and retractable jacks connected between the main support and the auxiliary support, the pivot points where the jacks are connected to the auxiliary support being angularly spaced apart relative to the axis of pivoting of the auxiliary support whereby when (during pivoting of the auxiliary support) one jack is in a 'dead center' position the other jack can still pivot the auxiliary support permitting remote control thereof.

Hydraulic walking roof-support frame

A hydraulic, walking, roof-support frame comprising a vertically-movable, pivotable control lever pivotally connected at its lower end portion to a rigid inextensible rocker arm pivotally mounted on a floor runner or skid of the frame and guided at a distance therefrom by a second rocker arm disposed nearer the coal-face end of the frame and pivotally connected to the floor runner and to the control lever, the free or coal-face end of the control lever being pivotally connected to a roof bar or plate pivotably born by hydraulic vertically-adjustable props, in which the said second rocker arm is longitudinally adjustable and is so constructed that it can be held at a predetermined intermediate length between pivots at its ends to enable its length to be changed in either direction as a result of a thrust from the roof.

An hydraulic shield assembly for use in material-discharging operations in mines, comprising a pivotally-mounted shield which can be raised and lowered by at least one hydraulic prop and which is surmounted by a roof-supporting beam or cap, in which the shield has a forward portion which is more steeply inclined to the horizontal than its rear portion so as to provide a space between that rear portion and the overlying rear portion of the roof-supporting beam or cap in which is supported a pipe for the discharge of material.
