A packet data network gateway (PDN-GW) on a wireless telecommunications network having a target radio access network (RAN) and a Serving (GW) includes a processing unit which generates an end marker packet The PDN-GW includes a network interface which sends the end marker packet onto the network to assist the target RAN in reordering of downlink data. A method for a packet data network gateway (PDN-GW) on a wireless telecommunications network having a target radio access network (RAN) and a Serving (GW) includes the steps of generating an end marker packet with a processing unit. There is the step of sending the end marker packet onto the network with a network interface to assist the target RAN in reordering of downlink data.

A method for a mobility management entity (MME) is disclosed. In some embodiments the method includes: establishing a UE context for a UE; selecting a back-up MME for holding a duplicate context of the user entity; informing a SGW of the selected back-up MME; and transmitting a the duplicate context to the selected back-up MME.

The invention regards a handover method for a data packet based wireless mobile communications network. The network comprises a core network (CN) and a radio area network (RAN). The core network (CN) comprises a control plane node (MME) intercommunicating with a user plane node (UPE). The radio area network comprises a mobile user equipment (UE) intercommunicating with a source radio base transceiver station, eNOdeB, (source eNodeB), wherein payload data is routed via a tunnel between the user plane node (UPE) and the source eNodeB (source eNodeB), wherein the handover comprises the step of establishing a temporary tunnel between the user plane node (UPE) and a target eNodeB (target eNodeB), the handover being initiated by the target eNodeB (target eNodeB) transmitting an unreliable uplink data signal to the user plane node (UPE) comprising handover information.

The present invention relates to a packet data support node (A) in a core network and connectable to at least one radio access network over a radio network control node. A method for the provision of a defined quality of service in a packet switched communication system with interconnected nodes (N) for the forwarding of data packets is described. The system comprises at least one edge node (EN) for the connection to user equipment (UE) or a further communication system (FS) and for processing data packets. The packets comprise a data field () specifying the handling of the packets and the nodes (N) perform a differentiated handling of packets according to said data field (). Method and devices to provide a defined quality of service in a packet switched communication network

The invention relates to a mobile LAN including a number of hosts interconnected by a communication media. Routing means and a mobile station is connected to the LAN. A host on the LAN may perform a packet data communication with an external host via the routing means and the mobile station. Translation means is connected to the routing means for the temporary translation of a locally defined network layer address assigned to a host on the LAN into a globally defined network layer address when the host on the LAN performs a packet data communication with an external host.

Method and an arrangement in a mobile radio system

Communication is enabled between a first network in which control functions and user functions are combined in a first node and a second network in which user functions are implemented in a second node, and control functions are implemented in a third node. A determination is made whether data received contains control data. If so the control data is extracted from the received data and is forwarded to the third-node in which control functions are handled. The control data is used for resource handling. A system and method for allocating system resources to provide a selected quality of service in connection with data communications. A mobile user station requests a first quality of service level for a data communication session. In response to a determination that system resources for providing the first quality of service level are unavailable, the system assigns resources for providing a second quality of service level for the data communication session. Thereafter, during the communication session, the system monitors the availability of system resources. If system resources for providing the first quality of service level become available, the system allocates the system resources for use by the user station and upgrades or downgrades the communication session accordingly.

A communications network and method for screening incoming circuit switched calls directed to a mobile terminal operating in packet switched mode. The communications network includes a circuit switched network and a packet switched network. A called party uses the mobile terminal to transmit to the packet switched network a screening list containing at least one listed phone number. A cellular communication system supporting packet data communication includes a number of switching arrangements for switching speech and/or circuit switched data. It also includes a number of packet data nodes, each controlling/serving the packet data communication in a number of packet paging areas. In each cell, a number of packet data communication channel resources are used for packet data communication, and each packet data node includes mobile station information handling devices keeping information about mobile stations registered in the cells covered by the packet data node. Cell information handling devices are further provided keeping information about packet data communication channel resources in the cells covered by the packet data node. Devices are provided for calculating which packet data communication channels are to be used for mobile stations after updating of a cell. Furthermore, devices are provided for keeping information about which cells have been updated and when a cell is updated. Paging of a mobile station in a stand-by state is performed by sending a number of first paging messages from the packet data node using the calculated packet data communication channel resources in all cells within the packet paging area in which the mobile station is registered. If the mobile station is not found, a second paging message is sent out to all cells which have been updated, advantageously on all packet data communication channel resources of such cells.
