In a method for operating an internal combustion engine, wherein the internal combustion engine has a cylinder in which a combustion chamber is provided that is delimited by a reciprocating piston guided in the cylinder, wherein the piston is connected by a connecting rod to a crankshaft and wherein the internal combustion engine has a device for supplying fuel and a device for igniting the fuel/air mixture in the combustion chamber at least one engine speed value of the internal combustion engine is determined and evaluated. A pre-ignition state of the internal combustion engine is determined based on the result of the evaluation step.

Method for operating an internal combustion engine by determining and counteracting a pre-ignition state

A carburetor () has an intake channel () wherein a throttle element and a choke element are arranged with the choke element being upstream of the throttle element. The choke element is displaceable between an operating position () and at least one starting position (). A first fuel path is provided which supplies fuel to the intake channel section () in dependence upon the underpressure present therein. A first controllable valve () for controlling the supplied fuel quantity is mounted in the first fuel path. In order to achieve an adapted fuel supply in different operating states, a second fuel path is provided which defines a bypass line to the first valve (). Method for controlling the composition of a fuel/air mixture for an internal combustion engine

An internal combustion engine having an intake channel that opens into a crankcase. A first fuel channel opens into the intake channel to supply fuel thereto as a function of underpressure in the intake channel. An auxiliary channel opens into a transfer channel that fluidically connects a crankcase to the combustion chamber. A second fuel channel opens into the auxiliary channel and is connected to a storage reservoir for fuel. At least one valve controls the quantity of fuel to be supplied to the engine via the auxiliary channel. Largely fuel-free air is supplied to the engine via the intake channel during idling. During a first revolution of the crankshaft, fuel is supplied via the auxiliary channel, so that a combustible mixture can form in the combustion chamber. During a second revolution, largely fuel-free air is supplied via the auxiliary channel and the combustion chamber is scavenged with largely fuel-free air.

A portable handheld work apparatus includes a drive motor configured as an internal combustion engine (). An ignition circuit is for an internal combustion engine in a handheld portable work apparatus. A combustion chamber () is configured in the cylinder () of the engine () which is delimited by a piston () driving a crankshaft (). A pole wheel () revolves with the crankshaft () and is assigned to an induction loop (). The pole wheel periodically changes the magnetic flux in the induction loop. An ignition capacitor () is charged by a charge coil () of the induction loop and is discharged via a discharge circuit () via an ignition coil (). The invention is directed to a method for operating a two-stroke engine having a cylinder in which a combustion chamber is formed and which includes devices for metering fuel and supplying combustion air as well as an ignition device for igniting a mixture in the combustion chamber. In the method, fuel and combustion air are supplied to the engine and the mixture in the combustion chamber is ignited. The combustion chamber is delimited by a piston which drives a crankshaft rotatably journalled in a crankcase. A control is provided which controls the metering of fuel and the ignition of the mixture in the combustion chamber. In the method, the two-stroke engine is controlled in at least one operating state so that the number of combustions is less than the number of revolutions of the crankshaft in the same time interval.

Method of operating a single cylinder two-stroke engine

A portable handheld work apparatus such as a motor-driven chain saw () includes a housing () wherein an internal combustion engine () and a carburetor () are mounted. A throttle lever () is provided which is pivotally journalled on a handle (). The handle () is connected to the housing () via at least one antivibration element (). A vibration gap () is configured between the handle () and the housing (). A transmitting unit () is provided for transmitting the pivot movement of the throttle lever () to the carburetor (). The transmitting unit includes a rigid transmitting element () which bridges the vibration gap (). A simple configuration and a substantial decoupling of the relative movement between the housing () and the handle () from the actuating movement of the carburetor is achieved in that the transmitting element () is rotatably journalled and the pivot movement of the throttle lever () is transmitted as a rotation about a rotational axis () lying transverse to the vibration gap ().

A device that controls the engine speed of an internal combustion engine of a hand-held power tool has a protective control unit. The engine has an ignition control unit for controlling the ignition timing relative to a crank angle of a crankshaft based on the crankshaft speed and also has a centrifugal clutch driven by the crankshaft that begins to engage when a first engine speed is surpassed and is fully engaged when a second engine speed is reached. The protective control unit is activated within an engine speed range between the first and second engine speeds and monitors a dwell time of the actual engine speed within the engine speed range. When a predetermined dwell time of the actual engine speed is surpassed, the protective control unit intervenes in the combustion process and corrects the engine speed to a value that is outside of the engine speed range.

Protective engine speed control for a centrifugal clutch

A method is for controlling the metering of fuel in a fuel system () of an internal combustion engine () which is to be started manually. This control is with a currentless open electromagnetic valve (). The electromagnetic valve () is only switched into the closed state when a supply voltage (U) is applied and current flows. Within a blocking time (), which is pregiven by an engine control (), a supply voltage (U) is switched onto the excitation coil of the electromagnetic valve () only and the valve () is supplied with current only when an underpressure is present in the intake channel () of the fuel system (); whereas, in the remaining time span () of the blocking time (), wherein no underpressure is present, the control unit () switches off the supply voltage (U) and the valve () is in the currentless open state.

Method for controlling an electromagnetic valve in a fuel system

An electromagnetic valve () includes a coil () which is fixedly connected to an iron core (). An armature plate () is movably journalled in the direction of the coil longitudinal axis () relative to the iron core (). At least two flow channels () open at the armature plate () and are fluidly separated from each other when a current flows in the coil (). A small structural size with a simple manufacture of the electromagnetic valve () is achieved in that a flow channel () opens in the peripheral region () of the armature plate () at the end () of the armature plate () facing toward the coil ().

Electromagnetic valve

An arrangement for decanting liquids includes a tubular-shaped support () having a flow channel (). The flow channel () is blocked by a valve plate () which is coupled via axial connecting elements (') to the relative movement of an inner sleeve () and an outer sleeve () of the support (). The outer sleeve () lies in overlapment and the axial connecting elements (&#x2032;) extend into the interior of the support. The valve plate () can be lifted from its valve seat against a spring force engaging at the inner sleeve () and at the outer sleeve (). A radial flange collar () is formed on the outer sleeve (). To ensure an accurate metering at the highest possible volume flow of the discharged liquid at low manufacturing costs, the valve plate () is mounted at a free end () of the support () and the axial connecting elements are configured as tension rods (&#x2032;) and are arranged next to an edge of the valve plate ().

An ignition circuit for a two-stroke engine has a spark plug connected via an ignition switch to a voltage source. The ignition switch is actuated via a control circuit to close the ignition switch in dependence upon the crankshaft angle and the rpm of the engine and to trigger an ignition spark per revolution of the crankshaft. For one and the same rpm, the control circuit makes available an ignition time point for the idle case and an ignition time point for the acceleration case. To achieve rapid acceleration from idle, the control circuit monitors idle rpm to switch to an ignition time point for the acceleration case for a pregiven rpm increase. If the control circuit determines an absence of the rpm increase or drop after ignition switchover to the acceleration case, then there is a switch back to the ignition time point for the idle case.

A carburetor arrangement is provided for an internal combustion engine that is to be started with a pull cord. A fuel channel that is connected with a fuel-filled storage space opens into and supplies fuel to an intake channel portion as a function of the underpressure in the intake channel portion. The underpressure in the intake channel portion is increased during the start-up process via a start-up mechanism. To keep the engine ready to run with the start-up mechanism engaged, a control valve is disposed between the storage space and where the fuel channel opens into the intake channel portion. The control valve is opened or closed by a control unit as a function of the speed of the internal combustion engine.

A carburetion arrangement for an internal combustion engine of a manually guided implement is provided. The arrangement includes a carburetor having an air channel, the cross-section of which is variable via a butterfly valve. An auxiliary carburetor having an auxiliary air channel is, in a flow conducting manner, connected in parallel to the air channel, whereby the auxiliary air channel opens into the air channel downstream of the butterfly valve. Disposed in the auxiliary air channel is a starting valve that includes a flow control device, wherein the starting valve alters the flow resistance of the flow control device as a function of the differential pressure that is present.
