A metallurgical vessel has a refractory head piece and a vessel outlet at the refractory head piece. A sliding gate valve for this metallurgical vessel includes a housing frame that is mounted to the vessel at the outlet so as to be removable therefrom. A slider unit is mounted in the housing frame having a sliding plate therein. A refractory base plate is also mounted in the housing frame, and has an upper side with a plane sliding surface that is engaged with the refractory head piece and a lower side having a lower sliding surface that is parallel to the plane sliding surface. The sliding plate is pressed against the lower sliding surface of the refractory base plate. The refractory base plate is fixed in the housing frame in a direction parallel to the sliding surfaces of the refractory base plate, but is movable in the housing frame in a direction perpendicular to the sliding surface of the refractory base plate. Spring elements bias the sliding plate against the lower sliding surface of the refractory base plate, and the refractory base plate against the refractory head piece. By being able to easily remove the housing frame, both the refractory base plate and the sliding plate can be easily and quickly exchanged as necessary.

Sliding gate valve for a metallurgical vessel

A housing assembly of a sliding closure unit for controlling the discharge of molten metal from a metallurgical vessel includes a housing member mounted on the metallurgical vessel adjacent an outlet thereof, and a cover member mounted on the housing member by joints to enable the cover member to pivot with respect to the housing member and to be removable therefrom. The joints include joint bases on at least four sides of each of the housing and cover members and including, for each of the housing and cover members, first and second oppositely spaced sides with the joint bases thereof defining parallel first and second joint axes, respectively, and third and fourth oppositely spaced sides with the joint bases thereof defining parallel third and fourth axes, respectively. The joint bases on each side of the cover member face joint bases of a respective side of the housing member. The joints include attachment structure for selective attachment to the joint bases of the first and second sides of the housing and cover members or to the third and fourth sides of the housing and cover members, thereby to pivotally and removably connect the cover member to the housing member.

Adjustable housing assembly for sliding closure unit

A pivot is mounted to extend parallel to a spout axis. A pair of arms are mounted at first ends thereof to swivel about the pivot and carry at second ends thereof holders which support pouring pipes. Each arm can be swiveled to a position beneath the spout and precisely centered with the spout by abutment devices. The holder and pouring pipe are then raised until the pouring pipe engages the spout.
