In a method of the separation of yeasts from a fermentation liquor contained in a fermentation tank the fermentation liquor is forced by a pump through a conduit system into a filter container in which the fermentation liquor is forced through a number of vertically suspended candle-like filters so that yeast filter cakes are formed on the filter cloth with water of the filters. The cakes are then washed with water, blown off with pressurized air for dewatering, loosened with a counterflow of a pressurized gas and discharged from the filter container. The filter container is immediately connected to the fermentation tank.

Method of separating yeasts from fermentation liquors

A filter is provided with a number of elongated filter elements disposed in a pressure vessel. Each element has a filter web extending about the length of the element and fastened at the top and the bottom. Rigid support means are provided inside the filter element in order to support the web. They extend about the length of the element and preferably extend over a part only of the circumference of the element so as to permit the web to perform a limited movement outwards and inwards in radial direction. During the operation the web is pressed against the support means by the inflowing liquid permitting a filter cake to build up at its outside while upon a backwash operation the web moves outwardly away from said support means thus loosening the filter cake. Inlet and outlet means are provided on the pressure vessel. This permits a build-up and easy removal of the filter cake without the use of a bellows type filter web.

Filter

In a filter pressure container provided with a plurality of vertically suspended tube-like filter elements having a filter cloth thereon the filtration of residual volumes of a liquid being filtered and the rinsing-out of the filter cakes built up during the filtration on the filter cloth are carried out by pumping out of the residual liquid or the rinsing liquid from the container by pump into an injector mounted in the container above the filter elements. The injector sprays out the residual liquid or the washing liquid over the filter elements while a pressure gas or air is simultaneously supplied into the container to force the liquid mist through the filter elements.

A method of and an arrangement for thickening of suspensions includes filtering of a suspension through candlelike filter elements in a filter container, backwashing the filter elements individually without interrupting the filtration process by applying pressure impulses of gaseous backwash medium to the pressure elements in a direction opposite to the filtration direction, wherein the gaseous backwash medium forms a gas chamber over the filter elements separated from the suspension fluid and having an adjustable pressure.

The filter apparatus consists of a housing which accommodates a plurality of filter elements depending on individual collecting pipes. The collecting pipes are located parallel to each other and are separated by intermediate walls which extend beyond the collecting pipes and the filter elements in axial direction.

An arrangement for fastening filter candles and filter apparatus provided therewith includes a collecting pipe which is composed of several T-shaped pipe pieces. Each of the pipe pieces has a substantially horizontal portion and extending therefrom a second portion which has a free end part provided with a groove. Each of the filter candles has an upper part provided with a flange portion which is engageable into the groove to obtain a tight attachment of the filter candle to the collecting pipe.

Arrangement for fastening filter candles and filter apparatus provided

Filter element for a pressure filter container, composed of a central tube surrounded by a plurality of support tubes for supporting a filter web. The support tubes can be closed or perforated. The space between the central tube and support tubes, as well as the interior in the case of perforated support tubes, serve as flow canal for the filtrate. The use of plastic tubing provides a simple and cost-favorable filter element.

Filter element

A biochemical-action vessel accommodates a substrate in which biochemical reactions are caused by microorganisms. A heat-exchange arrangement is provided in the vessel and removes the heat generated in the substrate by such reactions. The substrate is circulated in the vessel advanced by an advancing arrangement in a closed path which passes through the heat-exchange arrangement. Aerating gaseous medium is introduced into the substrate upstream of the advancing arrangement and in the region of suction generated by the same, and entrained by the circulating substrate so as to supply the oxygen necessary for the aerobic growth of the microorganisms.

Apparatus for combined cooling and aeration of biochemical-action vessels

A backwashing alluvial filter has a vertical filter container, a plurality of collecting pipes removably mounted in the container, a plurality of filter elements suspended on the collecting pipes, separating walls subdividing the interior of the filter container into at least two chambers, and communicating with one another via vertical overflow shafts. Washing off of solid matter is performed by supplying a washing liquid via pipes directly under the overflow shafts.

In a method for the recovery of enzymes, the activity of which after the treatment of starch-containing raw materials used for the production of fermentation alcohol is still not exhausted, the liquid phase containing solutions with still active enzymes after the first separation of the protein fraction is led to a fermentation, then a distillation. The wash water for the protein fraction is provided with a portion of the total amount of alpha-amylase necessary for starch hydrolysis of the raw material and then solids are again separated. The enzyme-containing wash water for the second separated solids is led back into the first enzymatic degradation stage simultaneously with a portion of the slop coming from the distillation.

Date fruits are extracted by a wet grinding operation after addition of water and subsequent filtration of the homogenized product with the aid of a cellulosic filter aid. The date pits may be used as the filter aid. A fermentation may be carried out before the filtration. A high concentrate feed material is thus obtained.

A method of aerating liquids, particularly for aerobic growing of microorganisms, has the steps of forming a circumferential stream of liquid, forming a longitudinal stream of liquid, and superimposing these streams so as to form a combined closed spiral-shaped stream. An arrangement is provided in which the circumferential stream is formed by an upright conduit tube and an impeller, the longitudinal stream is formed by a distributing element with a plurality of nozzles, and the superimposing of the streams is attained by fixedly mounting the distributing element relative to the impeller.

Method and arrangement for aeration of liquids

A filter apparatus has an elongated shaft, a plurality of filtering elements mounted on the shaft and spaced from one another in direction of elongation of the latter, and means for cleaning the filtering elements. The cleaning means includes a source of cleaning medium under elevated pressure and a plurality of nozzle elements communicating with this source. The nozzle elements face toward surfaces of filtering material provided on the filter elements and are turnable relative to these surfaces. The cleaning medium is ejected from the nozzle elements at a pressure between substantially 5 and 100 bar toward the surfaces of the filtering material of the filter elements so that the cleaning medium removes a cake deposited during a filtering process from the surfaces of the filtering material and thereupon also cleans the filtering material of the filter elements.
