The invention relates to a centrifugal separator having a separation space with a set of separation plates, an inlet configured to feed a fluid product to be separated into the separation space, the inlet and the separation space being connected in a pressure mediating manner, a first and a second outlet extending from the separation space for discharge of a two phases of the product. A discharge control system is configured to trigger the opening of the second outlet upon a trigger condition, wherein the discharge control system comprises a sensor arranged to determine the inlet pressure and/or the inlet flow of fluid product, and the trigger condtion is associated with a decrease in inlet flow in relation to inlet pressure, indicating an increasing flow resistance downstream of the inlet. The invention further relates to a discharge control system and a method of controlling the intermittent discharge of a centrifugal separator.

A centrifugal separator for separating a fluid mixture into components, including a non-rotating part, a rotor which is attached to a shaft which is rotatably supported in the non-rotating part around a rotational axis, which rotor forms within itself a separation space delimited by a rotor wall. The separator includes an inlet extending into the rotor for supply of a fluid mixture to be separated in the separation space, at least one sensor measuring unbalance conditions in the frame; a level determining arrangement including two or more space defining elements of arbitrary form arranged on the interior surface of, or close to, the rotor wall, where each space defining element defines a space which communicates with the separation space or another of the space defining elements through at least one inlet opening arranged at a certain radius from the rotational axis and not outside that radius and where that certain radii of the space defining elements are different. Methods for determining when a predetermined amount of heavy phase fluid (purification) or sludge (clarification) has been separated are also disclosed. The separator and methods make it possible to determine when the level of separated heavy phase fluid or sludge is high enough for emptying or discharge of the separator.

An inlet device for a centrifugal separator for directing the liquid mixture that is to be separated from an inlet pipe to a separation chamber is rotatable around a central rotational axis. The inlet device includes a central conical receiving structure arranged around the axis and including a central receiving zone for receiving the liquid mixture from the inlet pipe and wherein the zone surrounds the apex of the conical receiving structure. The inlet device further includes at least one inlet channel for directing the liquid from the receiving zone to the separation chamber, wherein the channel extends from the periphery of the receiving zone and spirals down the outer surface of the conical receiving structure. Further, the at least one inlet channel extends from the receiving zone in a direction that forms an angle &#x3b1; with the tangent of the periphery of the receiving zone and &#x3b1; is less than 90&#xb0;. Further, the at least one inlet channel extends in a straight radial direction from central rotational axis from the bottom of the central conical receiving structure to an inlet channel outlet, wherein said outlet is configured to be in contact with the separation chamber of said centrifugal separator.

A system includes a hermetic centrifugal separator, a recirculation system, a first monitoring system, a first control system, a pressure monitoring system, and a pressure control system. The separator includes a rotor, a separation chamber, an inlet channel for separating components, a first outlet channel for receiving separated light components, and a second outlet channel for receiving separated heavy components. The recirculation system recirculates the separated heavy components from the second outlet channel to the separation chamber. The first monitoring system monitors density and/or flow rate of the heavy components in the second outlet channel. The first control system controls flow rate in response to a control signal from the first monitoring system. The pressure monitoring system monitors pressure in the second outlet channel. The pressure control system controls a back pressure valve in the second outlet channel in response to a control signal from the pressure monitoring means.

A method and a device for separation of a fluid in the liquid state comprising two liquids that are not mutually miscible, with different densities, wherein a first liquid is to be cleansed from a second liquid, whereby the fluid in the liquid state is conducted through a rotor where centrifugal separation of the second liquid from the first liquid takes place, and is then conducted into a tank, with the proportion of the second liquid being reduced to less than 5%, and by conducting the fluid, after centrifugal separation, through a restriction, whereby the pressure of the fluid in the liquid state is reduced, which causes portions of the fluid in the liquid state to evaporate so that further portions of the second liquid escape in the form of a gas which is conducted away, thereby further reducing the proportion of the second liquid in the outgoing fluid in the liquid state.

Method and device for separation of a liquid fluid by centrifugal separation and evaporation

This document describes a device for cleaning of crankcase gases from a combustion engine, and a combustion engine having such a device. An inlet conduit is connected to a crankcase of the combustion engine. A centrifugal separator receives a flow of crankcase gases from the crankcase via the inlet conduit and comprises a routable centrifuge rotor for centrifuging the crankcase gases. A drive device drives the centrifuge rotor. An outlet conduit discharges cleaned crankcase gases from the centrifugal separator. The rotary speed of the drive device, and thus the rotary speed of the centrifuge rotor, is controllable depending on the gas pressure in the crankcase. An export conduit may be connected to the inlet conduit and adapted to enable discharge of a flow of crankcase gases from the crankcase by-passing the centrifugal separator depending on the gas pressure in the crankcase. An import conduit may be connected to the inlet conduit and adapted to enable feeding of a flow of air from the surroundings to the crankcase depending on the gas pressure in the crankcase.

A centrifugal separator has a centrifugal rotor that is rotatable about a vertical axis and has both a rotor body for separation of two liquids, having different densities, and a pumping member that is designed to pump via the outside of a conical body a mixture of said two liquids into the rotor body from a surface layer of a liquid body situated below the rotor body.

In a centrifugal separator, the rotor of which is adapted to be driven by means of a gaseous driving fluid, the rotor itself supports a ring of turbine blades extending around the rotational axis of the rotor. A stationary nozzle is adapted to direct a flow of the driving fluid towards the ring of turbine members. After the driving fluid has passed between the turbine blades and has influenced them for driving of the centrifugal rotor, it enters a reversing chamber formed by a stationary reversing member. In the reversing chamber the driving fluid is caused to change its direction and is then conducted again towards the ring of turbine members in order to be utilized a second time for driving of the centrifugal rotor.

Centrifugal separator having a rotor and driving means thereof

In connection with cleaning of gas from particles suspended therein and being heavier than the gas the gas is caused to rotate in a chamber delimited in a stationary housing, so that the particles by centrifugal force are separated from the gas and are thrown towards a stationary housing. The rotation of the gas is accomplished by means of a rotor, which includes a stack of conical separation discs arranged coaxially with each other and concentrically with the rotational axis of the rotor. The gas to be cleaned is caused to flow through interspaces between the separation discs, while they are rotating, the particles by the centrifugal force being brought into contact with the insides of the separation discs. In contact with the insides of the separation discs the particles first move along the generatrices of the separation discs and then move along inclined guiding members, which are arranged in contact with said insides. The guiding members collect particles moving across different sectors of the separation discs and conduct them to separate areas distributed around the surrounding edges of the separation discs. From these areas the particles in an agglomerated or coalesced form are thrown away from the separation discs towards the stationary housing.

Method and an apparatus for cleaning of gas

Gases produced by a combustion engine, e.g. crankcase gases, are conducted through a separation chamber formed and surrounded by a centrifugal rotor, by means of which the gases are caused to rotate, so that particles suspended in the gases are separated by means of centrifugal force. The centrifugal rotor is caused to rotate by means of a pressure fluid that is generated by means of the combustion engine.

The invention is an entrainment device for a centrifugal separator. The entrainment device is comprised of two axial delimiting surfaces. One axial delimiting surface turns axially towards and the other turns axially away form an inlet chamber outlet of the separator. The entrainment device permits extended periods of operation without clogging of inlet chamber.

In a reaction-driven centrifugal rotor the interior of its casing is divided into one separation chamber (,) and one outlet chamber (,). The separation chamber (,) has an inlet (,) for pressurized liquid to be treated in the centrifugal rotor, and the outlet chamber (,) has outlets (,) for treated liquid. The outlets (,) extend out through one end wall (,) of the casing from the outlet chamber to the outside of the casing. They are situated at a distance from the rotational axis (R) of the centrifugal rotor and directed in a way such that the centrifugal rotor is subjected to a reaction force in its circumferential direction, when liquid flows out therethrough. An annular partition (,) arranged coaxially with the centrifugal rotor within the casing separates the separation chamber (,) from the outlet chamber (,). However, the two chambers communicate with each other through a space at the radially inner edge of the partition (,). The invention is concerned with liquid entrainment members (,), which are arranged in the outlet chamber (,) and formed in a way such that they impede liquid flow in the circumferential direction of the centrifugal rotor relative to the centrifugal rotor. Preferably, there is at least one liquid entrainment member (,), which in a part of the outlet chamber (,) substantially completely prevents liquid flow relative to the centrifugal rotor in the circumferential direction thereof.

In a rotor for a centrifugal separator there is delimited at one rotor end a distribution chamber (,) for a pressurized liquid supplied to the rotor for being cleaned from particles, and at the opposite rotor end there are liquid outlets arranged for reaction drive of the rotor. The liquid outlets open on the rotor outside in a liquid free space radially spaced from the rotational axis of the rotor. The separation chamber (,) of the rotor, which is situated between the distribution chamber (,) and the outlets (,), contains arcuate separation discs (,), which are distributed around the rotational axis (,) of the rotor and formed such that a lot of axially extending separation channels are delimited, which have a relatively small through-flow resistance to liquid to be cleaned. The separation channels extend axially from the distribution chamber (,) to a collecting chamber (,). The collecting chamber (,) communicates with an outlet chamber (,) at a radial level in the rotor corresponding to that of the radially innermost parts of the separation discs. Thus, efficient separation can be accomplished and the largest possible part of the pressure of the supplied liquid can be used for the rotation of the rotor.

A sealing device (4) is provided for sealing between a first member (1) and a second member (2) and comprises a first sealing element (10), provided on the first member and extending thereabout towards the second member, and a second sealing element (20), provided on the second member and extending towards the first member without direct contact with the first sealing element (10). The first sealing element (10) comprises a first flange member (12) extending towards the first member (1) forming a first chamber (13) and the second sealing element (20) comprises a second flange member (22) extending towards the second member (2) and forming a second chamber (23). The flange members (12, 22) are provided overlapping each other in such a manner that the first flange member (12) extends in the second chamber (23) and the second flange member (22) extends in the first chamber (13).
