Substantially non-crosslinked fluorocarbon polymers containing carboxyl groups are prepared starting from non-crosslinked and in some cases new, fluorocarbon polymers in which the linear macromolecules carry side chains containing the end group --CHFX (X is F or CF.sub.3).
