A cathode ray tube deflection unit comprising a field coil system with two diametrically opposite field deflection coils and a line coil system with two diametrically opposite line deflection coils. Each coil has a front end segment (15, 18), a rear-end segment (16, 19) and conductors (17, 20) extending between such segments. In order to prevent rotation of the horizontal lines of the raster on the CRT display screen with respect to the horizontal axis, which rotation is caused by tolerance errors in alignment of the two coil systems, a pair of plate-shaped parts (21, 21') of soft magnetic material are arranged respectively extending across the front end segment (15, 15') of the respective line deflection coils (11, 11') in positions coinciding with diametrically opposite vertices of a rectangle whose diagnonals intersect substantially on the longitudinal axis of the deflection unit, and at which positions a portion of the front end segment of a line deflection coil overlaps a portion of the front end segment of a field deflection coil.

A cathode ray tube electromagnetic deflection unit comprising a support (4) having a flange (8) at its constricted end (5) which has a tangential groove into which radial grooves (14) merge. Two sets of deflection coils (18, 19) are wound on the support (4), the turns thereof running through the radial grooves (14) and the turns of one set bending into the tangential groove. The coils of the coil system 18 are for line deflection, and the two halves thereof are wound in the opposite winding sense and are energized during operation in such a manner that the highest voltage in both coils occurs at the coil turns adjacent plane of separation between the two coils and the lowest voltage occurs at the coil turns most remote from such plane of separation.

A device for displaying television pictures comprising a display tube in the neck of which an electron gun system is present for emitting at least one electron beam towards a display screen and having a deflection unit which is connected coaxially around the display tube and comprising a line deflection coil system and a frame deflection coil system both having coils of the saddle type. Each frame deflection coil comprises a number of conductors which are wound so as to produce first and second side packets, a first front end section and a second front end section which together define a first window, as well as to produce third and fourth side packets, a second rear end section and a second front end section which together define a second window which is situated within the first window.
