Overinflation of the lungs due to the respiration is thus ruled out according to the present invention. The device permits, moreover, rapid filling of the lungs with breathing gas and makes thus possible a comparatively long phase of expiration. A process is also provided for regulating a respirator and for respirating a patient.

An electroimpedance tomograph with a plurality of electrodes () is provided, which can be placed on the body of a patient and are connected via a selector switch () with a control and evaluating unit (). The control and evaluating unit () cooperates with the selector switch () such that two electrodes each are supplied with an alternating current from an AC power source () and the detected analog voltage signals of the other electrodes are processed in order to reconstruct therefrom the impedance distribution of the body in the plane of the electrodes, wherein a symmetrical AC power source is used to reduce common-mode signals. To further suppress interferences due to common-mode signals, provisions are made for the control and evaluating unit () to be set up, furthermore, for detuning the common-mode signal of the alternating current on the body against the ground by means of a common-mode signal measuring electrode () and, based on this, the symmetry of the symmetrical AC power source such that the common-mode signal on the body is minimized, and the corresponding detuning parameters are stored for each electrode pair.

A compressed air respirator with prolonged operating time due to rebreathing. The compressed air reservoir includes a compressed air reserve with a connected demand air supply valve, a reversible breathing gas reservoir () with a registering device () detecting the filling level of the breathing gas reservoir (), and with an inspiration and expiration line () for the user of the apparatus. A valve () is connected with the inspiration and expiration line () and, on the inlet side, with the compressed air reserve () with a demand air supply valve () and with the breathing gas reservoir () and, on the outlet side, with the ambient air () and with the breathing gas reservoir (). The valve means () is cyclically reversed by the registering device () in two phases such that depending on the filling level of the breathing gas reservoir (), the inspiration line () is first connected with the compressed air reserve () and the expiration line () with the breathing gas reservoir () during a first phase until the filling level of the breathing gas reservoir () reaches an upper reversing point for the valve means (), so that the inspiration line () is connected with the breathing gas reservoir () and the expiration line () with the ambient air () during a second phase until the filling level of the breathing gas reservoir () reaches a lower reversing point for the valve means () and the latter is again reversed as in the first phase.

Compressed air respirator

A device and a process for determining the change in the functional residual capacity (FRC) in a simple manner. Based on a first respiration phase for mechanical respiration, a recruitment maneuver is performed for this during a second respiration phase, and respiration is switched back to mechanical respiration during a third respiration phase. Reference values U, Uare formed from the end-expiratory values of the impedance measured signals U during the first respiration phase and the third respiration phase, and the difference &#x394;U (&#x394;FRC) between the reference value Uof the third respiration phase and the reference value Uof the first respiration phase is an indicator of the change in the functional residual capacity of the lung of the test subject.

Device and process for controlling a respirator

A compressed air respirator has prolonged operating time due to a rebreathing feature. The respirator has a compressed air reserve () with a connected demand air supply valve (), wherein the demand air supply valve () is connected with a reversible breathing gas reservoir () with adjustable volume. A rebreathing line () for the user of the apparatus has an expiration valve (), wherein the rebreathing line () is connected with the breathing gas reservoir ().

A device for the analysis of the qualitative, optionally also the quantitative composition of gases, uses measuring light of known spectral composition that can pass through the gas to be analyzed and the gas can be caused to interact. A detector arrangement is present, which can detect light originating from the sites of the interaction between the measuring light and the gas to be analyzed. At least one refractive-diffractive optical element is provided, which is transparent over its entire surface and contributes to a wavelength-dependent imaging of the light to be detected onto the detector arrangement in a transmitting manner. The refractive-diffractive optical element is arranged in the ray path between the area in which the interaction between the gas to be analyzed and the measuring light takes place and the detector arrangement.

An electrode belt for impedance tomography shall be improved such that it has a simple design and makes possible good contacting of the electrodes () with the body of the test subject to be examined. The electrode belt () has at least 16 electrodes () on an electrode holder or belt material (), which is elastic at least in some sections. The belt formed of one or more belt material sections completely surrounds a test subject to be examined on the circumference of the body. Electrode feed lines () extend along the electrode holder (). The electrode feed lines and are connected to a feed line () at least at one feed point () on the electrode holder ().

An electroimpedance tomograph is provided with a plurality of electrodes (), which can be placed on the body of a patient and are connected to a control and evaluating unit () via a selector switch (). The control and evaluating unit () cooperates with the selector switch () such that two electrodes each are supplied with alternating current from an AC power source (). The detected analog voltage signals of the other electrodes are sent into the control and evaluating unit () via a measuring amplifier () and AD converter () and are processed there in order to reconstruct the impedance distribution of the body in the plane of the electrodes therefrom. A symmetrical AC power source () is used to reduce common-mode signals. To make it possible to suppress errors due to common-mode signals, provisions are made for the control and evaluating unit () to be set up for making available an additional common-mode signal at an output during an adjusting mode of operation and to send it to the body via common-mode signal electrodes () that can be placed on the body. The control and evaluating unit () is prepared, furthermore, to adjust the measuring amplifier () according to value and phase for each electrode pair connected by the selector switch () such that the common-mode signal at the output of the measuring amplifier () is minimized, and the adjusted parameters are stored for each electrode pair.

A device for guiding a person along a traveled path enables the wearer of the device to be guided back along the traveled path in an electronically supported manner even under conditions under which orientation is difficult. The device has a portable ejection means (), in which a container () for accommodating a plurality of transponders () and an ejection mechanism (), which is actuated by a control device () to eject a transponder () from the container (), are present. A control unit () is prepared such as to actuate the ejection mechanism () at predetermined time intervals or at predetermined distances in space. A portable transmitter/receiver device () is designed to detect at least one of the transponders () dropped off and to generate a signal representative of the direction in which that transponder () is located. A portable display device () receives the direction signal of the transmitter/receiver means () and offers the wearer a visual and/or acoustic display of the direction.

The invention is directed to an arrangement for blocking the operation by an intoxicated operator of a machine or a motor vehicle. The arrangement has a measuring apparatus which determines the blood alcohol content of the operator and an evaluation unit connected to the machine or motor vehicle. The evaluation unit receives measurement data supplied by the measurement apparatus and enables the machine or motor vehicle when the measurement data satisfies at least one predetermined condition. The arrangement is improved in that the sobriety of the operator is recognized before the starting operation of the machine or motor vehicle without it being necessary to supply a breath sample. The measuring apparatus includes a gas sensor which is a sensor for measuring the blood alcohol content via permeation through the skin of the operator. Each gas sensor (2) contains a memory (3) with gas sensor-specific data and is connected via a line to the measuring device (1) with a first calculating and evaluating unit (7), to a downstream memory (8) and preferably to an alarm device (10). Via the second plug-type connection (5), the sensor element (4) proper is connected to a contacting unit (9) in the measuring device (1), and the contacting unit (9) is connected to the first calculating and evaluating unit (7), on the one hand, and to a downstream, second calculating and evaluating unit (11) for the measured value evaluation proper, on the other hand. A method for determining the portion of an electrochemically detectable substance in a gas sample includes the steps of introducing the gas sample into an electrochemical measuring cell 1 and generating a measurement curve i(t) by the electrochemical conversion of the substance in the measuring cell 1. The measuring curve i(t) increases from a reference line to a maximum value i.sub.max and drops back again to the reference line. Then, the maximum value i.sub.max and an area A below the measuring curve i(t) are determined. The area A is proportional to the portion of the substance in the gas sample. The method is improved in that a new measurement value is made available after a short time. This is achieved in that the maximum value i.sub.n max and the area A.sub.n of a previous measurement are compared to each other and a proportionality factor K.sub.n is determined. The proportionality factor K.sub.n is given by the ratio of the area A.sub.n to the maximum value i.sub.n max and, for a new measurement, a new maximum value i.sub.n+1 max is determined and the portion of the substance in the gas sample is computed for the new measurement from the new maximum value i.sub.n+1 max and the proportionality factor K.sub.n of the previous measurement.
