A security element for manufacturing value documents provides at least one image, formed by a grating structure which has a plurality of trough-shaped microcavities. The microcavities have a structure width from 0.5 &#x3bc;m to 3 &#x3bc;m and an aspect ratio of 0.4 or greater, a metal-containing coating is applied to the grating structure, and in the grating structure the trough-shaped microcavities are separated from each other respectively by strips which are planar and respectively more than 200 nm and maximally 1,200 nm wide.

Security element for producing value documents

A security element () for security papers, documents of value or the like, having a substrate () the upper face () of which is height-modulated, and has a multilayer structure () which acts as a color filter. The structure is formed on the height-modulated upper face () and is likewise height-modulated as a result, and includes a first layer (), a second layer () of dielectric material formed thereon and a third layer () formed on the second layer (), wherein the first and third layer () are each formed from a dielectric material having a higher refractive index than that of the second layer (), or in each case from a metal or semi-metal material.

A method for manufacturing a partially demetallized layer element comprises the steps of: supplying a layer element having a carrier substrate with a face that has at least one first and one second region, wherein the first region has a first structure which is different from a second structure of the second region, and at least one metal layer is arranged on the face of the carrier substrate; and removing the metal layer by exciting surface plasmon polaritons by means of electromagnetic radiation in the first region having the first structure. A layer element and an apparatus for carrying out the method are provided.

A security element for manufacturing value documents, such as banknotes, checks or the like, comprises a top on which a microrelief structure is developed that has at least two sub-regions that each comprise a plurality of groove- and/or rib-shaped structural elements that lie adjacent to one another and extend along a longitudinal direction, and are reflecting or backscattering. The longitudinal directions of the sub-regions are different, and the structural elements are each not resolvable with the naked eye with respect to the width transverse to the longitudinal direction, and fan out incident parallel light achromatically in a fan that lies transverse to the longitudinal direction and has an opening angle of at least 30&#xb0;.

Security Element Having Groove- or Rib-Shaped Structural Elements

A security element for manufacturing value documents, such as banknotes, checks or the like, has an upper side making available several micro images, in particular for a lens magnification arrangement. Each micro image is formed by a micro cavity structure having a multitude of micro cavities disposed side by side, the micro cavities have an extension of 0.5 to 3 &#x3bc;m respectively in a spatial direction disposed parallel to the upper side. The micro cavity structure is optically reflective or highly refractive on its surface, so that on the surface at least partial reflection takes place, and for each micro image micro cavities of at least a first and a second type are present, which differ by an aspect ratio of the micro cavities, whereby each micro image is structured by the at least two different types of micro cavities.

Security element for security papers, value documents or the like

A two-dimensionally periodic, color-filtering grating has a contiguous high-refractive. In an embodiment, the color-filtering grating includes a metallic ground layer defining a grating plane and above the ground layer a two-dimensionally regular pattern of individual high-refractive, such as metallic areal elements that respectively extend parallel to the grating plane and respectively are spaced apart from the ground layer through an intermediate dielectric by a distance that is greater than the thickness of the ground layer and of the areal elements. The regular pattern has in at least two directions, which run parallel to the grating plane, a periodicity between 100 nm and 800 nm, and preferably between 200 nm and 500 nm.

A security element for an object of value has a flat, transparent body with a front side and a back side between which there lies a center plane, a first region configured on the body and a second region configured on the body which encode a motif. The body has in the first region a ground element structure which conveys different color impressions from front and back sides in plan view of the body. The body likewise has the ground element structure in the second region and is in mirrored form relative to the center plane, causing first and second regions to show the motif from both sides in plan view, and the motif to be unrecognizable in transmission view.

Security element having a color-effect-producing structure

A security element for manufacturing value documents, such as bank notes, checks or the like, has an upper side on which there is formed a microcavity structure that has a multiplicity of adjacent microcavities configured as retroreflectors, wherein on the microcavities there is formed a structure causing a color effect. The microcavities are respectively configured such that they have a first region in which radiation incident on the upper side is singly reflected, and a second region in which radiation incident on the upper side is multiply reflected. The structure causing the color effect has a dispersion dependent on the angle of incidence, so that radiation singly reflected at the first region shows a different color effect, when viewed from the upper side, than radiation multiply reflected at the second region.

Reflective security element for security papers, value documents or the like

The present invention relates to a security element () for security papers, value documents and the like, having a feature region () that selectively influences incident electromagnetic radiation (). According to the present invention, it is provided that the feature region () includes metallic nanopatterns () in which volume or surface plasmons are excited and/or resonance effects are caused by the incident electromagnetic radiation ().

There is described an apparatus for guiding a value document along a portion of a transport path in a specified transport direction, having a film forming device which is configured for respectively forming on mutually opposing sides of the transport path portion a film of gas flowing in the transport direction, the film extending at least over the total width of the transport path portion and thus the total width of value documents transported along the transport path, so that the value documents are guided between the gas films.
