Adducts which are obtainable by reacting cycloaliphatic or heterocycloaliphatic polyamines containing at least two primary groups with polyfunctional epoxides containing more than two epoxy groups per molecule in such amounts as to supply 10-100 equivalents of active hydrogen atoms bound to amino nitrogen per one epoxide equivalent, are suitable hardeners for epoxy adhesives, especially adhesives for metals and thermosetting plastics.

Compounds of formula I or II ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are hydrogen, alkyl, cyclohexyl, phenyl, benzyl or tolyl, or are a --CH.sub.2 --CHR.sup.3 --CH.sub.2 --S--CO--R.sup.4 radical, R.sup.3 is hydrogen or methyl, R.sup.4 is alkyl, cyclohexyl, phenyl, benzyl or tolyl, X is alkylene, --S--, --SO--, --SO.sub.2 -- or substituted alkylene, in which R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 are hydrogen or alkyl, and n is an integer from 1 to 10, can be used as latent hardeners for epoxy resins. The compositions containing epoxy resins and these hardeners are particularly suitable for use as single component adhesive formulations. The cured products have good hot water resistance.

(Acylthiopropyl)phenols

Compounds of formula I or II ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are hydrogen, alkyl, cyclohexyl, phenyl, benzyl or tolyl, or are a --CH.sub.2 --CHR.sup.3 --CH.sub.2 --S--CO--R.sup.4 radical, R.sup.3 is hydrogen or methyl, R.varies.is alkyl, cyclohexyl, phenyl, benzyl or tolyl, X is alkylene, --S--, --SO--, --SO.sub.2 -- or substituted alkylene, in which R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 are hydrogen or alkyl, and n is an integer from 1 to 10, can be used as latent hardeners for epoxy resins. The compositions containing epoxy resins and these hardeners are particularly suitable for use as single component adhesive formulations. The cured products have good hot water resistance.

One-component systems which are stable on storage and can be converted to crosslinked epoxide resins on heating and which contain a crystalline epoxide resin with, on average, more than one epoxide group per molecule and a melting point between 40.degree. and 150.degree. C., and, homogeneous distribution, a curing catalyst.

A liquid or pasty thermosetting adhesive which can be pre-gelled, which is suitable for the bonding of moulded parts or for the sealing of folded seams, and which contains (a) a liquid epoxide resin having on average more than one epoxide group in the molecule, and (b) a latent epoxide curing agent insoluble in the epoxide resin, the adhesive being characterized in that it also contains (c) in an amount of 5 to 50 percent by weight relative to the epoxide resin, at least one halogen-free thermoplast in powder form, which is insoluble in the epoxide resin at room temperature, and which has a softening point of between 60.degree. and 160.degree. C., such as a polyethylene, a polypropylene or an ethylene/acrylic acid/acrylate terpolymer.

Curable mixtures of polyepoxide compounds which contain an amine curing agent have longer curing times, and thus, in particular, good workability when used as adhesives, when N,N-dimethylethylenediamine derivatives or N,N-dimethyl-1,3-propylenediamine derivatives are used as the curing agents. The mechanical properties are also frequently improved.
