A method and system for maintaining spinning machines having a plurality of spinning stations include automatically positioning a maintenance unit proximate to the spinning stations for removing spinning components from the spinning stations and replacing the removed spinning components with replacement spinning components. The maintenance unit is configured to remove the spinning component from the spinning station for servicing, to immediately replace the removed spinning component with a replacement spinning component which is carried by the maintenance unit, and to transfer the removed spinning component to a remote service station. The removed spinning component is serviced at the service station and is subsequently picked up by the maintenance unit for subsequent installation into another spinning station.

A supporting-disk bearing, particularly for the shaft of an open-end spinning rotor, the shaft (1) being mounted in a wedge-shaped gap formed by supporting disks (4, 5), and the supporting disks (4, 5) having a running surface (40,50) consisting of an elastic covering against which the shaft (1) is pressed. The running surface (40,50) has at least one interruption formed by a recess and bridged by the line of contact of the shaft (1). The recess can be designed in various ways, but it is preferably groove-shaped. The wear of the running surface is reduced as a result of this design.

The device for the opening and mixing of fiber bales contains a bale opening device capable of being lowered on a bale suspended from a bridge-like machine frame which is fashioned in the form of a portal and is capable of travelling along a guide rail, said bale opening device being equipped with a conveying device. A bale opening roll or plucker roll (6) is provided as the bale opening device, its axis of rotation being perpendicular to the direction of movement of the machine frame and its working width being at least 75% of the total width of the machine frame. A suction channel (9) fixedly installed above the bales (B) serves as the conveying device for the fiber material taken from the bales (B). The device is of simple construction and has a usable opening width essentially equal to its overall width and makes it possible to achieve good fiber mixing.

When a thread (10) supplied at a constant speed is wound onto a cross-wound bobbin (11), the variations in thread tension are compensated, and in addition predetermined thread-tension limiting values are prevented from being exceeded as a result of a change in the winding-on speed. A first regulating system (96) is provided for compensating periodic variations in the thread tension, while a second regulating system (51) is provided for compensating shifts in the range of thread tensions. The second regulating system is designed as a variable step-up gear (5), the drive part (60) of which is connected to a drive shaft (4) extending over several spooling stations. The output part (62) of this step-up gear (5) is connected to the spooling roller (3), the drive part (60) being connected to the output part (62) by means of a transmission member (61) which determines the gear ratio at any particular time and which is adjustable as a function of the thread tension. The drive part (60) and the output part (62 ) are both designed as cone wheels, between which the transmission member (61) is continuously adjustable. The transmission member (61) has assigned to it an adjustable basic position and a return device (89) for returning to a basic position determining the maximum step-up ratio.

Process and apparatus for winding a thread supplied at a constant speed

The invention relates to an open-end rotor-spinning device with a rotor shaft which is mounted and driven in the wedge-shaped gap between supporting disks and to the free end of which is assigned an axial bearing. A simplified mounting, which also allows the supporting disks to be removed and exchanged while the machine is in operation, is provided because the rotor shaft (1) is mounted at two bearing points, of which one is formed by supporting disks (2, 3) arranged in the vicinity of the spinning rotor (10) and the second is a bearing (5) which absorbs axial and radial forces and which receives the free end (11) of the rotor shaft (1). An increase in the operating speed of the spinning rotor (10) without an increase in the running speed of the drive means (6) is achieved as a result of a reduction of the diameter of the rotor shaft (1) in the region of the drive means.

In an open-end rotor spinning machine having a plurality of spinning stations located next to one another, each spinning station has a spinning rotor (40) which is arranged in a housing (1) and has a drive spindle (42) extending transversely to the machine longitudinal direction. This drive spindle (42) is mounted in the gusset portion of a supporting disk bearing (44). The supporting disk bearing (44) is supported by the housing (1) which accommodates the spinning rotor (40) and which is mounted on a swivelling axis (10). The spinning rotor (40) is driven by a drive belt (43) extending in the machine longitudinal direction. The housing (1) can be swivelled away from this drive belt (43) to such an extent that the housing (1) can be removed from its receptacle on the machine side.

A drum for carding machines, which has a casing made of sheet steel. The two ends of the cases are supported by two hubs which are attached to the drive shaft. The interior of the casing is divided internally into cells by plurality of radial support elements which are connected rigidly to the inside of the casing and to the drive shaft. The support elements may be connected to a central support pipe which connects the two end hubs or the support elements may connect directly with the drive shaft.

In an open-end spinning rotor comprising two separately-formed rotor parts subsequently connected to one another, a parting gap between the two rotor parts opens into the fiber-collecting groove and is formed at least partially as a weld seam connecting the two rotor parts. At least part of the fiber-collecting groove may be formed by an insert ring to increase the wear-resistance of the groove. The ring, adjoining a sliding wall of the upper rotor part, is clamped between the two rotor parts and thereby radially inwards limits the parting gap inwards. To produce one of the present open-end spinning rotors, during welding the two rotor parts are so arranged relative to the welding location and rotated past the latter that the weld seam forms on the outside of the spinning rotor and does not project into the fiber-collecting groove.

The housing (1) of a opening device for an open-end spinning apparatus is lined by a thin-walled insert (3) which exhibits a perforation for the discharge of material (dirt, fibers) from the interior space of the housing (1). For the protection of the edge (310) bounding this perforation downstream relative to the fiber flow, an edge protector (4) is provided which is slidable onto the edge (310) engaging over the latter. For sliding the edge protector (4) onto the edge (310) to be protected, or for stripping it therefrom, a combined insertion and ejection tool (5) is provided which is introducible into the insert (3) and movable with a contact surface (51) along the peripheral wall (33) of the insert (3). The combined insertion and ejection tool (5) has a receiving throat (6) for the temporary reception of the edge protector (4) with a step (60) overhanging the contact surface (51) and in turn exhibiting a stripping edge (67).

Protector device for an open-end spinning apparatus

A thread (3) paraffining device employing a paraffin element (2) which is resiliently biased against a stop rail (6). The stop rail 6 extends transversely to the thread path direction and is arranged on one half of the end face (20) of the paraffin element (2) remote from the thread contact side. The paraffin element (2) has a diameter of at least 50 mm.

A method and apparatus for picking up a yarn and transferring it to an empty pirn following exchange with a full bobbin on a yarn winding unit on which yarn is extended between a pair of yarn draw-off rolls and a yarn holding device includes a pair of auxiliary draw-off rolls intermediate the draw-off rolls and the yarn holding device for positively drawing yarn from the draw-off rolls to produce a forced conveyance zone therebetween in which the yarn is conveyed essentially without strain and a yarn grabber device for grasping the yarn in the forced-conveyance zone and drawing out the yarn far into the region of a yarn catching device carried on the pirn.

Method and apparatus for picking up a yarn and transferring it to a pirn

An open-end spinning machine including a spinning rotor having walls which converge together at an angle of at least 40.degree. to define a collecting channel at the junction therebetween. A thread draw-off nozzle projects into the spinning rotor and has a curved thread contact surface. The radius of curvature of the thread contact surface is between 7.5 and 8.5 mm. Such enables yarn to be produced with a rotor speed of between 50,000 and 70,000 revolutions per minute.

Mechanism for supplying sliver to a resolving roller is adaptable to slivers having different average staple fiber lengths by selectively engaging a plurality of clamping members to provide a selectable nip line between a sliver supply roller and its cooperating member at different distances from the resolving roller corresponding to the sliver average staple length. Either the selected clamping member or the counter member is the supply roller. Selection of the desired nip line may be made by moving one or more clamping members and the counter member relatively, by selection of one of a plurality of feed nozzles, or by selective positioning of a movable feed nozzle. The nip line selection may be effected at individual spinning stations or simultaneously for a plurality of spinning stations.
