A toothbrush head having a bristle surface with tufts of bristles extending therefrom comprising: first tufts of a mixture of co-extruded bristles and unitary bristles located adjacent to the distal end of the bristle surface; second tufts comprising a mixture of co-extruded bristles and unitary bristles located adjacent to the proximal end of the bristle surface; third tufts comprising tapered bristles located adjacent to the widthways opposite sides of the bristle surface; and fourth tufts comprising a mixture of co-extruded bristles and tapered bristles longer than the co-extruded bristles located as a cluster of fourth tufts widthways between the third tufts and longitudinally between the first and second tufts.

A toothbrush head with bristles comprising tapered and non-tapered bristles, in which the non-tapered bristles extend to two different lengths from the face, being a first greater length LNand a second shorter length LN. In a preferred embodiment non-tapered bristles are combined with tapered bristles in tufts which are inclined in opposite directions away from and towards the grip handle.

A toothbrush wherein longitudinally between its neck region and the grip handle is a an undulating region of transverse limbs integrally linked by folds with troughs between the limbs, the troughs containing a thermoplastic elastomer material bonded to the plastic material of said limbs with a ShoreA hardness of 60-70. Specific structures and dimensions of limbs and folds are disclosed.

A toothbrush with a cleaning zone with bristles, and with a deformable element by which the cleaning zone can be adapted to the shape of the tooth surface by the cleaning force, where the deformable element comprises flexible wings tapering in a wedge shape toward the cleaning zone and with guide elements between them, at least one of the wings and/or guide element is made of a compressible elastic material.

A toothbrush head having a bristle carrier, and bristles held in bristle holders, the bristle holders being connected to the bristle carrier by resilient connectors which cause the holders to move resiliently as brushing pressure is applied to the bristles and also cause the bristle holders to rotate. A suitable form of connector follows a conical surface between the bristle holder and bristle carrier.

A toothbrush head comprising a flexible bristle carrier such as an elastomer or gel pad or flexibly linked segments, on which bristles are mounted, with a support which supports the carrier at its base near the handle and at the opposite tip part, leaving the carrier unsupported thereby in a region longitudinally between these parts, the carrier being flexible such that it can deform under the forces of toothbrushing so that both its longitudinal and widthways sections become distorted. A toothbrush in which at least some of the bristles are linked together at their ends proximate to the head by a web in the toothbrush head, with a pad of a resilient elastomeric material adjacent to the web. A toothbrush head in which the fixed ends of the bristles are embedded in a mass of a polyurethane gel material incorporated in the head. Typical nylon materials as used for toothbrush bristles are found to bind with polyurethane gels so that advantageously holders for the bristles need not be used. A process for making a toothbrush head comprising widthways adjacent sections, the process comprising the stages of first making the head in an injection moulding process with the sections relatively spaced apart from each other in a widthways direction, then secondly moving the sections of the so formed head relatively spaced closer to each other in a widthways direction.
