An apparatus for treating a fiber bale having a soiled surface. The apparatus includes a cleaning device arranged for engaging a bale surface to remove soiled material therefrom and a displacing arrangement for effecting a relative motion between the fiber bale and the cleaning device.

Apparatus for cleaning the surface of textile fiber bales

A textile fiber processing machine has a clothed roller, a clothed stationary carding element cooperating with the clothed roller, a mote knife cooperating with the clothed roller, a stationary component situated adjacent the circumferential periphery of the clothed roller and having a bounding edge defining, together with the mote knife, a waste removal clearance; and a carrier element disposed radially adjacent the roller periphery. The mote knife and the stationary carding element are mounted on and supported by the carrier element which is arcuately shiftable, together with the mote knife and the stationary carding element as a unit, in a direction parallel to the roller periphery, thereby varying the width of the waste removal clearance.

A method of operating a bale opener, including the steps of propelling a carriage of the bale opener in a path of travel to execute consecutive back and forth passes in a generally horizontal direction along and between two parallel fiber bale rows having opposite end faces defining a length boundary for each bale row; removing, during each pass, fiber tufts from the top of the fiber bales of one of the rows by an opening device supported laterally by a tower mounted on the carriage; and turning, upon reaching the end of each pass, the tower through 180.degree. about a generally vertical axis for swinging the opening device through 180.degree. from above an end zone of one bale row to above an adjacent end zone of the other bale row such that the opening device, during its swinging motion, remains substantially in its entirety within the end boundary of at least one of the bale rows.

Method for driving a bale opener

A fiber bale opener includes a truck arranged for back-and-forth movement along a traveling path, for removing fibers from bales arranged along the traveling path. The bale opener further includes a stationary suction duct extending in the direction of the travelling path and having a throughgoing slot on one side thereof, extending parallel to the traveling path. A flexible cover belt extends over the slot for sealing the inside of the duct from the environment and defining an interstice within the truck. The interstice travels with the truck and provides a passage for the fiber to pass inside of the suction duct. A deflection roller is fixed to the truck and the cover belt is positioned above the slot and is divided into an upper and lower section with the lower section covering the longitudinal slot. The cover belt has one end fixed at one end of the traveling path and is guided around the deflection roller. A device for winding and unwinding the cover belt is provided which includes a rod or tube shaped core around which the cover belt can be wound and the upper section of the cover belt extends from the deflection roller to the winding and unwinding device.

Suction apparatus for removing fiber material in a bale opener

A system for monitoring and securing a zone associated with a power driven textile machine, which machine includes a part which moves when the machine is in operation in a manner to endanger an individual present in the zone, which system includes a radiation emitting device for producing a beam of directed radiation and for directing such beam along a path coincident with at least one boundary of the zone, a radiation responsive device positioned in the path of the radiation beam for producing an output indication when it is not receiving the directed radiation and a control unit connected to the radiation responsive device for halting movement of the part in response to appearance of the output indication.

A bale supporting apparatus for stabilizing fiber bales during opening of the fiber bales from the top includes a support element arranged to engage a vertical end face of a bale and further arranged for stepwise, vertically downwardly oriented motion as the bale height decreases during the bale opening process. The support element is mounted on a stationary carrier structure which is situated horizontally adjacent the space occupied by the fiber bales undergoing opening.

Apparatus for supporting fiber bales

A fiber bale opener includes a truck arranged for back-and-forth displacement along a travelling path, an opening mechanism carried by the truck and arranged for removing fiber from the top of fiber bales positioned along the travelling path and a suction apparatus for carrying away, by an air stream, fiber removed from the bales by the opening mechanism. The suction apparatus includes a suction duct extending in the direction of the travelling path and a throughgoing slot on one side of the duct, extending parallel to the travelling path. The suction apparatus further has a flexible cover belt which extends over the slot for sealing the inside of the duct from the environment and which defines an interstice within the truck. The interstice travels with the truck and provides a passage for the fiber from the opening mechanism to the inside of the suction duct. The cover belt extends in two superposed layers from one side of the interstice to one end of the travelling path and from the other side of the interstice to the other end of the travelling path.

Suction apparatus for removing fiber material

An apparatus for opening fiber bales includes an opening member arranged for travel along serially arranged fiber bales to execute opening passes; a grate including parallel-spaced grate bars having an operative position in which they extend parallel to the direction of travel of the opening member and press down on an upper surface of the bales. The opening member has opening elements projecting through clearances defined between adjoining grate bars. The operative position of the grate is varied substantially in a horizontal direction transversely to the direction of travel of the opening member and relative to the opening elements, whereby ridges of bale material formed underneath the grate bars are periodically exposed.

Method and apparatus for opening textile fiber bales

An apparatus for opening fiber bales has a traveling opening member propelled along serially positioned fiber bales to execute opening passes, a grate having parallel-spaced grate bars extending, in their operative position, in the traveling direction and pressing down on an upper surface of the bales. The opening member has opening elements projecting through the clearance defined by adjoining grate bars. During the opening process the relative position between the upper surface of the bales and the grate is periodically varied for periodically exposing ridges of bale material formed underneath the grate bars.
