An improved shrinkable covering made of a shrinkable plastic compound having an inlay of non-recoverable threads and recoverable threads has the recoverable threads arranged with excess length, preferably in helical form, and extending in the stretching and shrinking direction of the covering. As a consequence of this excess length, the recoverable threads are not subjected to any additional stretching during the stretching process of the covering. The recoverable threads act as 'swelling agents' in the shrinking process and seal off any longitudinal capillary cavities which may be produced during the production process of the shrinkable covering.

Shrinkable covering and method of manufacture

The invention includes a seal insert made of elastic sealing material for the sealing of cable connections. This seal insert is made of several sealing disks which are provided with concentric stampings or grooves and with a radial slit. For sealing, the cable openings of the sealing disks are fitted by removing concentric rings. For the sealing, the individual sealing disks are arranged reciprocally over one another, whereby the radial slits do not overlap and whereby the concentric grooves engage a smooth underside of an adjacent disk or a smooth surface of the connecting apparatus. A double seal is shown for the introduction of uncut cables.

A heat-shrinkable envelope of at least one shrinkable surface layer and a reinforcing insert has the reinforcing insert formed of a grid of plastic, and the grid is shrinkable in the shrink direction of the shrinkable layer.

Heat-shrinkable envelope

A cable sleeve having a longitudinally divided housing that includes a parting plane and a cable introduction plane for cable introduction openings. Embodiments of the cable sleeve include devices such as a mounting plate, a centerable cable interceptor device and receptacles for seal elements, arranged on the cable sleeve. Closure beads are arranged around and along the parting plane of the housing. The closure beads are held by at least one U-shaped closing rail but preferably by two U-shaped closing rails. A plurality of longitudinal beads are wedge-shaped and undercut, whereas a plurality of end face closure beads are trapezoid-shaped.

Cable sleeve composed of a longitudinally divided housing

A cap sleeve is composed of a cap member having an open end receiving a seal member with a sealing system. The sealing system includes the seal member acting with a second member to form a sealing chamber for receiving a sealing ring and an arrangement for moving the seal member relative to the other member to reduce the volume of a sealing channel receiving the sealing ring to cause an outward radial deformation of the sealing ring into contact with an inner surface of the cap member to form a seal therebetween.

Cap sleeve

A method for producing a tight termination at an introduction region of a shrinkable cable sleeve characterized by positioning the seal element between the cables, said seal element having a material deformable by the application of heat so that upon heating of the cable sleeve, the sleeve shrinks onto the cables to extend tangentially therebetween and the seal element fills the spaces between the cables and the walls of the cable sleeve. The seal element may be secured either to the cable sleeve or to one of the cables or to both. The seal element preferably has a fixed part of metal and a sealable part which will deform with the application of heat.

Method for producing a tight termination at the end of a shrinkable

A heat-shrinkable envelope is composed of at least one shrinkable planar layer on which a reinforcing component of fiber-shaped or thread-shaped reinforcing elements is arranged. These reinforcing elements are arranged in unregulated configuration, for example in the form of a fleece, felt or in an irregular fill. Advantageously, a cover layer may be applied so as to sandwich and bond the reinforcing component between the cover layer and the planar layer.

Heat shrinkable envelope

A cable sleeve is composed of longitudinally-divided cable sleeve shells that have a housing parting plane. The cable introduction areas are disposed spaced from this parting plane and, preferably, in a separate introduction parting plane so that when the cable sleeve shells are opened up to gain access to the interior, the seals on the cable introduction openings are not destroyed and remain unaffected.

A matching seal element for closing an introduction opening in a cable fitting, tubing or similar elongated article including matching the diameter to the diameters of introduced articles, by a terminal wall which is formed of concentric, removable sealing rings. The matching seal element is longitudinally divided and may be tightly clamped on sockets or pipes or on a dowel-like expandable receptacle which is spread in openings.

A composite envelope composed of a heat-shrinkable foil with a reinforcing layer containing tear-resistant fibers. The reinforcing layer is formed of a material which will melt below or at the temperature to which the heat-shrinkable foil is heated to stretch the foil and cause it to shrink back to its original condition so that the tear-resistant fibers are free to move in the melted material. Preferably, the composite is formed by providing carrier elements either having the fibers wrapped thereon or contained therein and assembling them with the shrinkable foil, heating to a stretching temperature to cause a melting of the carrier elements and stretching the foil at that temperature to create the memory and then holding the stretching forces until the foil has cooled to solidify the material of the carrier elements to form the reinforcing layer.

A shrinkable cable sleeve which is composed of a shrinkable envelope having a meltable inside layer and an inner cable insert. The inner cable insert is composed of a plurality of layers, wherein one layer is activatable by the application of heat, and the plurality of layers includes a basic foil layer and reinforcing elements which may be in a separate layer or embedded in the activatable layer. During assembly, a pressure tight cable sleeve will be produced by fusing the two activatable layers together.

Shrinkable cable sleeve

A terminal assembly or part for closing a conduit opening in a fitting, conduit socket or conduit includes a shrink tube having one end shrunk onto the conduit opening and the opposite end closed by an end part which may include a supporting element. In one embodiment, additional supporting elements are provided besides the supporting element of the end part. If an elongated object is to be inserted into the opening, at least a portion of the end part is removed to enable insertion of the elongated object such as a cable with the removal being accomplished without damaging any of the shrink tube so that a subsequent heat-shrinking of the tube onto the inserted elongated object will form a sealing closure with the object as the remains of the end part are expelled from the assembly.

The present invention involves a cable splice protective insert for cable sleeves. The insert should be of shrinkable material comprising a central part of cylindrical halfshells (1, 2) and deformable side parts (3, 4, 5) for diameter reduction at the cable introduction ends of the faces of the cylinder. The side parts (3, 4, 5) are firmly attached to at least one halfshell (1, 2) and have a corrugation running in the longitudinal direction of the insert. Therefore, a diameter reduction can be obtained in simple manner by applying a radial pressure to the corrugated ends.
