A printing mechanism and a distributing roller unit thereof has an inking roller, a dampening roller, a distributing roller located between the inking roller and dampening roller and movable between at least two positions in which it becomes alternately associated with the inking roller and the dampening roller and axially displaceable relative to the inking roller and the dampening roller, respectively, and elements for moving the distributing roller between the two positions and axially displacing the same.

In a control system for a plurality of ink zone adjusters in a printing machine each adjuster is connected via a main control circuit and a first bidirectional address and data bus to an input and output unit where the measured data are stored on specific addresses to be retrieved for later use. An additional storage control circuit is connected to the first bidirectional data bus to provide an intermediate storage of the measured or retrieved data. The addtional storage control circuit includes an addressing circuit controlled by a program control circuit to apply addresses pertaining to individual printing units to corresponding storing circuits. These corresponding storing circuits are connected through the first bidirectional data bus via a processing circuit including a switching device controlled by the program control circuit to connect the additional storing circuits either directly, or via an adder or via a coder, so as to compensate for play in the mechanical components of the adjusters or to separate coarse and fine adjustment in the ink zones. A recording-reading storing device is provided in the input and output unit, which is connected to a double four-contact switch interconnected between the main control circuit and the circuits connected to the position sensors and the setting motors of the respective ink zone adjusters. All the adjustment steps can be simulated on the recording-reading storing device and the ink zones can be adjusted without interferring with the printing process.

A moistening system for a printing machine, which can be suitable for application to a printing roller either of a wetting agent or alcohol, comprises a fountain roller partially immersed in a reservoir containing an agent to be applied to the printing roller, a slip roller in contact with the fountain roller, a rubbing cylinder rotated with the speed of the printing machine and applying the agent to the impression roller through distributing rollers, and a vibrating roller interpositioned between the rubbing roller and the slip roller to transmit the agent from the slip roller to the rubbing roller. The slip roller is connected to the rubbing roller so that they rotate with the same velocity.

A printing press is provided with a safety device mounted in the vicinity of a gap formed between two counter printing rollers for preventing the gap from intrusion by foreign elements, such as a mop or the hand of an operator. The device includes a four-link transmission unit operatively interconnected between pivotable guard plates and a cam switch adapted to actuate an end switch of the printing press to shut the latter off. The guard plates are swung away from the rollers so that the gap is enlarged.

In order to achieve proper adjustment of marginal key setting units, there is provided a switching unit with a plurality of contacts assigned to respective key position measuring sensors and including additional switching contacts assigned to imaginary key position setting units adjoining the real setting units at each end of the ink zone. The additional marginal switching contacts are connected to the output of assigned sample-and-hold members which apply thereto the measured value from the extreme actual position sensors so that comparing differential transducer comparing the measured values of consecutive pairs of position sensors always produces a starting difference which does not exceed a predetermined limit value.

A device for adjusting an ink knife relative to a ductor roller in an ink-applicator of a printing machine is disclosed. The device includes an number of adjusting arrangements arranged lengthwise of the ductor roller to control a plurality of ink zones along the length of the roller, each arrangement including a pivotable lever actuated to move a stripped edge of the ink knife to and from the ductor roller, and a tension spring extended somewhat normally to the ink knife and between the ink knife and a supporting element rigidly connected to the housing of the ink applicator, the tension spring locking the lever in its selected adjusted position. The device substantially reduces mutual influence of adjacent ink zones on each other during the adjusting operation.

A sheet-gripping device for sheet-processing machines includes a sheet-gripping member with a sheet-supporting surface of non-elastic material and a counter sheet-gripping member with a counter sheet-supporting surface made of elastic material. The sheet-supporting surface of the sheet-gripping member is formed with a plurality of projections located in first and second rows which extend skew to one another whereby a high uniform effect is attained in holding and transferring sheets being processed in the grippers closed in a vertical direction.

A plate clamping device for clamping flexible printing plates in rotary printing machines includes an upper guiding rail and a lower guiding rail to receive and clamp a printing plate therebetween. The device is provided with two spaced from one another bolts and a clamping arrangement centrally positioned between said bolts. The clamping arrangement includes an eccentric stud extending normally to the elongation of the lower rail and a wedged key mounted between the upper rail and the stud. The stud has a surface having a flat portion, a transition curved portion and a cylindrical portion. The wedged key is arranged in engagement with this surface and upon rotation of the stud the key may rest on the flat portion of the stud when the device is in a plate-releasing position or the key may engage with the cylindrical portion of the stud whereby the key is self-arrested and the rails clamp a printing plate.

A ductor roller and a doctor blade together define an inking gap in a printing machine. One or more ink-control screws can press against the doctor blade to locally reduce the width of the gap. Each screw carries an abutment arrangement which is engageable with respective opposite sides of the machine's ink trough, depending upon the direction of rotation of the screw, so as to define two specific end positions for the screw and thus a maximum and a minimum width of the ink gap.

A multiplicative adjustment provision at an ink feed remote control device with a servo system actuating doctor blade support elements. The servo system includes a servo drive and a set point providing section. A control system is connected to the servo system and is provided at its inputs and outputs with multiplexers. The control system includes a motor driven control circuit, a process control unit coordinating with the right sequence the motor control unit successively on the input and output side to the servo system and a first computing circuit preceding the motor control circuit. A difference forming unit has input and output connected to the process control unit and has an output connected to the first computing circuit. A second computing unit is connected to the motor control unit and to the switching unit.
