In a method of sealing a fracture () in a formation () surrounding a wellbore provided with a non-cemented perforated liner (), a placement tool () is introduced into the liner, and a first and second annular flow barrier () create an upstream (), an intermediate () and a downstream section (). A cross flow shunt tube () connects the upstream section and the downstream section, and a sealing fluid outlet () is arranged in the intermediate section. A placement fluid is caused to flow into the fracture and controlled to obtain a desired fluid flow in an annular space between the liner and the formation that is directed in downstream direction at a position upstream the fracture and in the upstream direction at a position downstream the fracture. When said desired flow is obtained, sealing fluid is ejected from the sealing fluid outlet. A sealing system is furthermore disclosed.

Method of sealing a fracture in a wellbore and sealing system

In a wellbore () provided with a non-cemented perforated liner () forming a continuous annular space () between the liner and the formation (), the liner having an original perforation pattern being optimized for acid stimulation of the wellbore, the following steps are performed: injecting a hydrocarbon displacement fluid and measuring parameters relevant for inflow profiling, on the basis thereof, determining an actual inflow profile (P) over the length of the wellbore, comparing the determined actual inflow profile (P) with a preferred inflow profile (P) over the length of the wellbore, estimating, on the basis of the difference between the actual inflow profile (P) and the preferred inflow profile (P), a modified perforation pattern for the liner, determining how the original perforation pattern of the liner may be adapted to form said modified perforation pattern for the liner, and adapting the perforation pattern of the liner accordingly.

In a method of sealing a fracture () in a formation () surrounding a wellbore provided with a non-cemented perforated liner (), a placement tool () is introduced into the liner and so positioned that a sealing fluid outlet () of the placement tool is located at the fracture (). A placement section () including the sealing fluid outlet is pressed against the liner. A placement fluid is caused to flow into the fracture and controlled to obtain a desired fluid flow in an annular space () between the liner and the formation that is directed in downstream direction at a position upstream the fracture and that is directed in upstream direction at a position downstream the fracture. When said desired flow is obtained, sealing fluid is ejected from the sealing fluid outlet. A sealing system is furthermore disclosed.
