A gas sensor for detecting at least one physical magnitude of a gas, in particular of exhaust gases of an internal combustion engine, is proposed, which includes a sensor element having an electrochemical cell. The electrochemical cell includes a first solid electrolyte member on which a first electrode and a second electrode are applied. The first and the second electrode are electrically connected by means of the first solid electrolyte member. The first electrode is in contact with the gas. The area of the first electrode is smaller than the area of the second electrode.

Gas sensor

A method for manufacturing a layer system, in particular for a sensor element for determining a physical variable of a gas to be measured, preferably for determining the concentration of a gas component or the temperature in an exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine. The layer system is composed of a ceramic carrier and at least one functional layer to which a solvent is added. A barrier layer is deposited on the ceramic carrier and the functional layer is deposited on the barrier layer. The barrier layer prevents the solvent from penetrating the ceramic carrier from the functional layer.

The reference air channel of a gas sensor or a lambda probe having a laminate body produced by printing technology is provided. The laminate body is produced by printing a suitably structured layer onto a neighboring layer, for example, by screen printing.

Gas sensor, in particular a lambda sensor

An unheated planar sensor element for determining the concentration of a gas component in a gas mixture, in particular the oxygen concentration in the exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine, has a sensor foil made of a solid electrolyte with an outer electrode exposed to the measuring gas, and an inner electrode exposed to a reference gas, as well as a reference-gas channel, which is covered by the sensor foil on one side and accommodates the inner electrode. To produce a small-volume, cost-effective unheated sensor element for use in small combustion engines having low power output yet sufficiently satisfactory measuring accuracy, the reference-gas channel is sealed on the underside by an additional sensor foil made of a solid electrolyte, and covered by an inner electrode lying inside the reference-gas channel and an outer electrode exposed to the measuring gas.

Unheated planar sensor element for determining the concentration of a gas component in a gas mixture

The ceramic sensor body, held inside a housing by a sealing packing, is provided with a circumferential coating of an electrically insulating material in the region of the sealing packing, so that the sensor body remains potential-free with respect to the housing, even when a sealing packing is used that is made of a material having poor electrical insulating qualities. In this manner, a glass putty is used for the sealing packing, which, while having comparatively poor insulating characteristics, provides a good sealing effect at high loading capacity.

Gas sensor, in particular a lambda probe, and method for production thereof

A gas sensor has improved electrical properties. In the top view of the layer planes of the body of the sensor, printed circuit traces for electrodes are arranged outside of cavities in the body, e.g., outside of the reference air duct. Furthermore, the electrodes are enlarged in the direction of the exhaust-side end of the sensor. Also, the printed circuit traces have an increased layer thickness or are formed as a double layer.

Gas sensor, especially a lambda probe

For the reduction of internal stresses and formation of cracks caused thereby, an exhaust gas probe includes two measuring electrodes separated by a solid electrolyte layer made substantially of ZrO and a circuit-board conductor layer for electrically heating the solid electrolyte layer. The circuit-board conductor layer is firmly connected to the solid electrolyte layer via a first sealingly sintered insulating layer made of an Al O -containing material. A pore-forming material is added to the Al O -containing material before. sintering.

Exhaust gas probe

An electrochemical gas sensor for determining the concentration of gas components in a gas mixture, in particular for determining NOx and HC. The gas sensor includes a first measuring gas space which is connected to the measuring gas, and a second measuring gas space which is connected to the first measuring gas space by a connecting channel. Furthermore, a first electrode and a second electrode, arranged in the first measuring gas space, and at least one third electrode arranged in the second measuring gas space, and at least one fourth electrode are provided. The two measuring gas spaces are arranged in layer planes on top of one another and are separated from one another by at least one oxygen ion conducting layer, the connecting channel passing through the oxygen ion conducting layer.

A planar electrochemical probe includes a probe body laminated together from a plurality of solid electrolyte layers and having integrated into the probe body a gas measurement chamber which is connected to the measurement gas via a diffusion hole. The diffusion hole has a depth that extends beyond the gas measurement chamber into a solid electrolyte layer adjoining the gas measurement chamber. The manufacture of the planar electrochemical probe includes making the diffusion hole in the probe body after the electrolyte layers have been laminated together and before the layers are sintered.
