A yarn winding machine for winding a continuously advancing yarn into packages, the yarn being guided in a yarn traversing mechanism which includes a traversing unit and a grooved roll downstream thereof in the direction of the advance of the yarn. To transfer the yarn from a full package mounted on one winding spindle to an empty tube mounted on another winding spindle, the spindle mounting the full yarn package is moved to a doffing position and the spindle mounting the empty winding tube is moved to the winding position. The machine is provided with a yarn deflection device, which comprises a guide plate extending parallel to the circumference of the grooved roll, and a yarn guide adapted for movement in a direction parallel to the winding spindles. By rotating the guide plate, the yarn can be removed from the traversing mechanism without significantly changing its looping, and the yarn guide is then adapted to engage the advancing yarn and move the yarn into engagement with a yarn catching slot on the empty winding tube.

Yarn winding apparatus and method

A winding apparatus is disclosed which includes a rotatable revolver having at least one spindle mounted thereon, with the spindle being adapted to coaxially mount one or more bobbin tubes. The revolver is rotatably mounted to the frame of the apparatus by a circular bearing surface of substantial diameter, which provides a very stable and durable mounting. The apparatus also includes a traversing mechanism for traversing an advancing yarn and so as to form a cross wound package on the tubes at the winding position. Also, a contact roll is mounted between the traversing mechanism and the winding position so as to be adapted to rest upon the surface of the package being formed. The contact roll is movable a limited distance radially away from the package being wound, and its position is sensed. To accommodate the build of the package, the revolver is positively rotated in response to the sensed position of the contact roll and so that the distance between the axes of the contact roll and the spindle is increased and the pressure between the contact roll and the package may be maintained within a small range of variation.

A winding apparatus is disclosed which includes a rotatable revolver having a pair of spindles mounted thereon, with the spindles being adapted to coaxially mount one or more bobbin tubes. Upon rotation of the revolver, the spindles are moved between a winding position and a doffing position, and a traversing mechanism is provided for traversing an advancing yarn and so as to form a cross wound package on the tubes at the winding position. Also, a contact roll is mounted between the traversing mechanism and the winding position so as to be adapted to rest upon the surface of the package being formed. The contact roll is movable a limited distance radially away from the package being wound, and its position is sensed. To accommodate the build of the package, the revolver is positively rotated in response to the sensed position of the contact roll and so that the distance between the axes of the contact roll and the operating spindle is increased and the pressure between the contact roll and the package may be maintained within a small range of variation.

An apparatus and method is disclosed for continuously winding a high speed running yarn onto bobbins which are serially delivered to a winding position, and wherein the rotating full bobbins are laterally moved from the winding position to a doffing position. An automatic yarn change-over mechanism is provided for transferring the running yarn from the full bobbin onto an empty bobbin which is brought to the winding position, and as part of the change-over procedure, the yarn is severed so that a free end remains on the rotating full bobbin. In order to prevent this severed yarn end from contacting and becoming entangled in the closely adjacent empty bobbin then being wound at the winding position, there is provided a plate which is pivoted into contact with the rotating full bobbin along a contact line which is located at or immediately upstream of the most narrow gap between the surface of the rotating full bobbin and that of the empty bobbin. The free yarn end is thus pressed onto the surface of the rotating full bobbin at the contact line and is thereby prevented from contacting the empty bobbin at the winding position.

Apparatus and method for winding yarn

A yarn traversing apparatus is disclosed, which is adapted for use in winding a running yarn to form a cross wound package. The traversing apparatus includes a yarn guide bar, and a pair of oppositely rotating rotors, and the rotors include radiating arms which define two closely adjacent planes of rotation. The rotors are mounted for rotation about offset axes, so that the arms sweep across the guide bar in opposite directions to define the yarn traverse stroke. The rotors are rotatably driven by a gear drive system which includes a transmission shaft, and the transmission shaft and one of the rotors are mounted in eccentric bushings which permit the meshing gears to be adjusted so as to eliminate backlash.

Yarn traversing apparatus

A winding unit for a spinning machine having a cantilevered chuck adapted to removably hold a plurality of spools on which threads are wound with a traversing movement in a thread running plane. A slide carriage is used to carry traversing means and a contact roller with their axes of rotation parallel to each other and to the chuck axis, traversing thread guides projecting on one side of the carriage into the thread running plane and a plurality of carriage guide members being arranged in a guide plane on the opposite side of the carriage. Counterbalancing means are also provided to counteract part or all of the weight of the slide carriage, and retractable holding means are preferably mounted to support the front end of the cantilevered chuck.

Winding unit

Winding machines having a traversing member, a contact roller, said roller or a winding tube chuck being mounted on a linearly movable carriage moved by piston-cylinder members, pneumatically operated control systems connected with said piston-cylinder members to move said carriage horizontally or vertically relative to the winding package or the contact roller, and frictionlessly operating membrane cylinder(s) mounting a support member for the carriage-mounted chuck or contact roller on the carriage, the pneumatic control system and membrane cylinder(s) maintaining constant pressure between the winding package and contact roller.
