A breathing mask with a fan for feeding respiration air into the interior space of the mask has a flow indicator for indicating a necessary respiration air flow at the air outlet end of the fan connection. In order for this indicator to be directly recognizable by the mask user in his field of vision, the opening of the air outlet end (4) shall be closed at least partially by a flow plate, which is movably mounted on a guide structure (11, 20) such that it emerges into the field of vision of the mask user in the presence of air flow, and guides the respiration air flow along the inner side of the window (10). If the respiration air flow is insufficient, the flap jumps back, and warning windows appear, instead, in the range of vision of the mask user.

A respirator with blower support for the flow through at least two filters in the breathing gas lead is provided such that the flow of one of the filters temporarily is in the inhalation direction and the other flow is in the exhalation direction respectively and their flow through direction is periodically reversible. This allows flow through of the filter in small volumes without a premature bursting or filter depletion. The wearer comfort should remain and the blower support is not diminished in its operation.

In known lung-controlled valves, the positive pressure in a breathing connection is established by the fact that the control diaphragm of the valve is tensioned by spring force. There, however, the opening force brought about by the spring is greatest when the inlet valve is closed, while it is smallest when the inlet valve is completely open. To keep the opening force as small as possible with the valve closed, and to leave the opening force approximately unchanged with increasing opening of the inlet valve, a magnet is provided on the inside of the housing cover of the lung-controlled diaphragm and the control diaphragm comprises a magnetizable part which is held at a minimum distance from the magnet by spacers when the inlet valve is closed.

Lung-controlled valve for respirator masks having positive pressures

Gas masks each with a protective hood according to the invention are used as rescue equipment, e.g. escape equipment. For this purpose, they must be available when needed in a fail-safe condition and then untrained persons must be able to apply and use them. The gas mask has in its protective hood portion a breathing attachment in form of a half mask. On the outside, the breathing attachment supports a plug-in frame which is open at opposite sides or ends and accommodates a breathing filter inserted therein through one of the open ends or sides. Respiration takes place through the inlet walls of the frame and the filter. The used-up breathing filter is replaced by inserting a replacement filter. The simple insertion or replacement of the breathing filter makes training of untrained persons possible by using training filters.

A device ensuring the adaptation of a removable respiratory mask onto a protection helmet includes two attachment arms, each one of the arms having first and second elements slidingly engaging one another. The first element is pivotally connected to one side of the mask whereas the second element is provided with a hook coacting with a catch located on the headpiece of the helmet. An interior spring is compressed between a support surface of the first element and a flange of a movable rod. The second element has a latching lever for latching the rod in any desired position to adjust or readjust the compression of the spring, and accordingly, the application force of the mask onto the face.

Device for affixing a respiratory mask onto a protection helmet

The use of respirator masks with positive pressure in the interior of the mask makes sure that during inhalation as well as exhalation a positive pressure prevails which prevents ambient atmosphere from entering. The lung controlled valve is separated by a control membrane into a breathing chamber and an outer chamber. The breathing gas chamber, connected with the interior of the mask, has the internal pressure thereof. For respiratory gas supply, the breathing gas chamber is connected with the respiratory gas source through an inlet valve controlled by the control membrane via a coupling means. The outer chamber contains a shutoff device by which the control membrane, manually actuated by a magnetic key, is held in a shutting position with simultaneous closing of the inlet valve. With the respirator mask taken off, unnecessary flow of respiratory gas is prevented. Upon placing it on and starting to breathe, the control member is pulled off the magnet without any additional action to be undertaken by the user, being thereby released from the shutting position. Normal lung controlled respiratory gas supply with the positive pressure in the interior of the mask is again possible.

Protective repiratory masks with excess pressure make sure that an excess pressure is maintained during both the inhalation and exhalation, whereby a penetration into the mask of the ambient atmosphere is prevented. A lung demand valve or control for the mask is divided by a control diaphragm into a respiratory chamber, and an outer chamber. The respiratory chamber communicates with, and follows the pressure in, the interior of the mask; to admit breathing gas, the respiratory chamber is connectable to the source through an inlet valve which is controlled by the control diaphragm through a lever and a rod. The outer chamber accommodates a locking mechanism which is manually actuable through a slide and by which the control diaphragm may be held in a pressure-relieved locked position in which also the inlet valve is closed. During periods where the mask is not in use, unnecessary supply of respiratory gas is interrupted. As soon as the mask is put on, the control diaphragm is released from its locked position by the started respiration alone, without any other manipulation on the part of the user, thus making possible a normal lung demand respiration with maintained excess pressure in the interior of the mask.

A respirator package comprises a half mask adapted to be worn over a wearer's nose and mouth and having a breathing opening with a filter positioned in the opening and a packing bag enclosing the filter and extending through the half mask having an end portion extending beyond each side of the mask which is closed but has a cut in marking forming a tear-off adjacent each end with a grasping element located adjacent the marking for tearing open the bag. The elements are connected to parts of a folded hood so that unfolding the hood tears the tear-offs.
