The invention provides a method for generating thin layers on a silicon base having a high purity, thermal stability and good dielectric properties wherein non-functionalized organosiloxanes with alkyl groups or alkyl and aryl groups are photochemically polymerized and/or cross-linked by means of pulsed laser radiation with a wavelength of less than 400 nm where the pulse duration is 10 ps to 1 ms, the pulse frequency is 1 Hz to 10 KHz and the energy density is at least 1 J/cm.sup.2 and the irradiation takes placed with one or more pulses. The layers can be used as passivating and insulating layers for semiconductor components and circuits.

Method for generating thin layers on a silicone base

The invention relates to electric insulation with a polyolefin base for medium and high voltage from about 10 kV up. In insulation of this type the formation of so-called water trees is to be prevented on the one hand and on the other hand, the dielectric losses are to be kept as low as possible. For this purpose it is provided that silicic acid prepared in the following manner is added to the insulation: SiO.sub.2 -containing mineral substances are melted with additions of aluminum oxide, boron oxide and carbonates and/or oxides of alkali and earth-alkali metals to form a homogeneous glass phase; from the glass melt, glass bodies with a large surface are made; the glass bodies are subjected to a leaching process with mineral acid; the porous SiO.sub.2 bodies produced are washed and dried and optionally milled. The electric insulation according to the invention is particularly well suited for use in cables and wires.

Electric insulation with a silicic acid additive made by a melt process

The invention relates to an electrical insulation composition of a polyolefin, which can be used for medium and high voltage from about 10 kV and which resists effectively and permanently the formation of so-called water trees. The insulative polyolefin contains an inorganic oxide additive, in homogeneous distribution therewith, at a concentration of 0.05 to 10% by weight, relative to the total weight of the composition. The additive is absorption-active for heavy metal ions and/or binds heavy metal ions in an ion exchange, with a particle size of up to 50 um or an agglomerate size of up to 100 um. It can be silica, alumina, hydrated alumina or an aluminum silicate. The electrical insulation according to the invention is particularly well-suited for use in cables and wires.

Electrical insulation

The invention relates to electrical insulation material of a polyolefin composition with a phosphate additive which prevents the formation of so-called water trees. The phosphate additive may be a water-soluble alkali or earth-alkali phosphate and/or a hydrolysable phosphoric acid ester (RO).sub.3 PO, wherein at least one of the substituents R is an aliphatic radical and the remaining substituents may be hydrogen or an aliphatic radical. The electrical insulation according to the invention is suited particularly for use in cables and wires.

The invention relates to electric insulation of polyolefin suitable for medium and high voltage from about 10 kV which resists the formation of so-called water trees. For this purpose, the insulation contains as an additive at least one alcoholate of magnesium, calcium or aluminum. Barbituric acid compounds are the additives and include barbituric acid, 2-thiobarbituric acid or substituted barbituric or thiobarbituric acid derivatives. The electrical insulation according to the invention is suited particularly for use in cables and wires.

In a reformed gas generator, where evaporated or atomized liquid higher hydrocarbons are reacted with an oxygen containing gas at elevated temperature to form a gas mixture containing methane, carbon monoxide and/or hydrogen, and wherein the reactants to be converted may be heated, if desired, to an elevated input temperature before they are conducted into the reformed gas generator, with throughput of reactants variable; and the air number of the oxygen containing gas between 0.05 and 0.2, a gas containing the oxygen only in free form is used, no external heat is supplied to the reformed-gas generator, and, with changing throughput, the air number and/or the input temperature is controlled so that the degree of conversion of the hydrocarbons is between 60 and 95% to give a method particularly well suited to operate an internal combustion engine with the generated reformed gas.

In a gas generation method in which liquid fuel is catalytically reacted with air at elevated temperatures to form a fuel gas, several plates each having a multiplicity of passage openings are arranged in tandem in spaced fashion within the reaction chamber of the gas generator and are embedded in a bed of packing material with the thermal conductivity of the plates higher than that of the packing material in order to obtain more uniform heating of the reaction chamber and better mixing and distribution of the reacting media permitting the gas generator to be loaded more heavily.

An oxidic catalyst for the conversion of water gas which consists of oxides of the metals aluminum, lanthanum, cobalt, nickel and uranium, with the aluminum oxide being present predominantly as .alpha.-Al.sub.2 O.sub.3. The lanthanum and cobalt content is 5 to 30% by weight, that of nickel, 0.1 to 4% by weight and of uranium, 0.1 to 2% by weight, related to the total weight of the catalyst.

According to the invention, the fuel is supplied to the reformed-gas generator in an amount at least approximately proportional to the instantaneous demand of the internal-combustion engine and is mixed there, in atomized or evaporated form, with so much air and/or fed-back exhaust gas drawn in through the reformed-gas generator that for the air component of the mixture, the air number for the reaction of the fuel in the converter is at least 0.05 but not more than 0.5 and the exhaust gas component does not fall below the exhaust gas quantity equivalent to the air number 0.05 and does not exceed the exhaust gas quantity equivalent to the air number 0.5. The fuel gas mixture produced in this manner, prior to being fed to the combustion chambers of the internal-combustion engine, is mixed with enough additional air sucked in by the internal-combustion engine such that the air number for the combustion in these combustion chambers is at least equal to 1.

Method and apparatus for operating an internal combustion engine

A fuel gas obtained in a reformed gas generator through the catalytic reaction of hydrocarbons and a gas containing oxygen and provided to an internal combustion engine has its heat content along with that of the exhaust gas of the engine used to convert methonal endothermically into a gas mixture containing carbon monoxide and hydrogen with the gas mixture so formed fed to one or both the reformed gas generator and, along with the fuel gas, the internal combustion engine.
